"Let's take a walk in the garden," Alex suggested, his voice low. "We can clear our heads."
Sophia nodded, her eyes grateful.
As they strolled through the gardens, the cool evening air enveloped them, and Alex felt Sophia's tension ease.
"I'm sorry again, Sophia," Alex said, his voice filled with emotion. "I know my family's behavior is unacceptable."
Sophia's gaze met his, her expression soft. "It's not your fault, Alex. You've been amazing."
Alex's heart swelled with love. "I'll always be here for you, Sophia. Always."
Sophia's lips curled into a smile, and Alex knew at that moment that he would do anything to make her happy.
But as they walked, the sound of footsteps echoed behind them. Alex's heart sank.
"Alex, can I have a word with you?" his father's voice called out.
Alex's grip on Sophia's hand tightened. "I'll be right back," he whispered.
Sophia nodded, her eyes concerned.
