Chapter 61 - Ten Unleashed Force

The shockwave that tore through the battlefield left Luka disoriented, Vigil spinning in the void as he struggled to stabilize the mecha. His mind raced as the pulsing energy of the Aether surged, wild and chaotic, like a storm without control.

"They've unleashed something inside that facility," Luka muttered under his breath, his heart pounding.

Kaela's voice crackled through the comms, urgent and filled with tension. "I'm seeing it too! The Aether—it's destabilizing everything!"

The facility below them pulsed with a strange, ominous light, its structure groaning under the pressure of the energy being released within. Luka knew they had to act quickly. Whatever the council had been experimenting on had pushed the Aether to its breaking point, and the entire facility was on the verge of collapse.

"I'm heading in," Luka said, his voice steady despite the chaos around them.

Kaela's golden wings flared with energy as she positioned herself beside him, her voice sharp. "We need to be careful. That Aether wave—it nearly tore us apart."

Luka's eyes locked onto the facility's central structure, a massive tower that pulsed with the unstable energy of the Aether. "If we don't shut it down, it's going to destroy this whole sector."

Without hesitation, Luka powered up Vigil's thrusters and launched himself toward the facility, Kaela close behind. The air around them crackled with Aetheric energy, the intensity of the pulse growing stronger with every second.

As they neared the central tower, the scale of the destruction became clear. The council's experiments had gone far beyond just research—they had been trying to weaponize the Aether, and now the energy was spiraling out of control. Parts of the facility had already begun to collapse, and the remaining defenses were barely holding on as the drones fought against the chaos.

"We need to shut it down from the inside," Luka said, guiding Vigil through the debris as he approached the tower's entrance.

Kaela's voice came through, tense but determined. "I'll cover you. Get inside and stop whatever they're doing."

Luka nodded, pushing Vigil forward as he landed near the entrance. The doors were shattered, torn open by the initial shockwave. Inside, the air was thick with the pulsing energy of the Aether, and Luka could feel its chaotic pull, stronger than ever.

He moved cautiously through the corridors, the hum of the Aether growing louder with every step. His connection to the Aether was still there, guiding him, but it felt different now—wild, untamed, as if the energy itself was fighting against being controlled.

As Luka reached the core of the facility, his breath caught in his throat. The room before him was massive, dominated by a glowing, crystalline structure that pulsed with the raw power of the Aether. Around it, machines hummed and sparked, their circuitry overwhelmed by the energy they were trying to contain.

"This is what they've been working on," Luka muttered, his eyes narrowing. "They've been trying to harness the Aether directly."

Kaela's voice came through the comms, filled with urgency. "Luka, you need to shut it down! The whole place is about to blow!"

Luka moved quickly, scanning the room for a way to deactivate the system. But the Aether was already too far gone—its energy had reached a critical point, and it was feeding back into itself, growing more unstable with every second.

"I can't stop it," Luka said, his voice tight with frustration. "It's too late."

Kaela's voice crackled over the comms, sharp and commanding. "Then you need to get out of there, now!"

Luka hesitated, his eyes locked on the Aetheric core. He could feel the energy pulsing through him, calling to him, tempting him to reach out and take control. If he could tap into it—if he could stabilize the Aether, maybe he could stop the facility from being destroyed.

But he knew the risk. The Aether was too dangerous, too powerful to be wielded recklessly. He had seen what it had done to Thalia, how it had consumed her in her quest for control. He couldn't let that happen to him.

But there was no other option.

"I have to try," Luka muttered, his voice filled with resolve.

Before Kaela could respond, Luka reached out with his mind, tapping into the Aetheric core. The moment his consciousness connected with the energy, a surge of power shot through him, flooding his senses with light and sound. It was overwhelming, a torrent of raw, unfiltered power, far beyond anything he had ever felt before.

Luka's heart raced as he fought to control the energy, his mind straining under the weight of it. The Aether was alive, pulsing with its own chaotic rhythm, and it resisted his attempts to stabilize it.

"Come on," Luka muttered through gritted teeth, his hands gripping Vigil's controls tightly. "I won't let you destroy this."

The energy surged again, more violently this time, and Luka felt his connection to the Aether falter. His vision blurred, and for a moment, he was lost in the swirling chaos of the Aether, his mind stretched to its limits.

But then, a calm washed over him—a faint, familiar presence that guided him through the storm. It was the same feeling he had experienced in the ancient ruins, a connection to something deeper, something beyond the raw power of the Aether.

"You're not just energy," Luka whispered, his voice filled with realization. "You're part of everything."

With that understanding, Luka stopped fighting the Aether. Instead, he let himself flow with it, letting the energy move through him, guiding it rather than controlling it. Slowly, the chaos began to subside, the pulsing energy of the core stabilizing as Luka's mind merged with it.

The facility groaned as the overload began to fade, the machines around the core sparking and sputtering to a stop. The Aether's energy was still powerful, still vast, but it was no longer spiraling out of control.

Luka exhaled, his body trembling from the effort. He had done it—he had stopped the destruction.

"Luka!" Kaela's voice broke through the haze, her tone filled with relief. "You're still there?"

Luka nodded, though he felt drained, his connection to the Aether fading slightly. "Yeah... I'm here. I stabilized it."

Kaela's laughter was soft, though there was still an edge of tension in her voice. "I thought we'd lost you for a second. Get out of there before the whole place collapses."

Luka didn't need to be told twice. He powered up Vigil and made his way out of the facility, the walls groaning as the structure began to give way. Outside, Kaela was waiting for him, her mecha hovering near the debris.

"You really need to stop pulling stunts like that," Kaela said, her voice a mix of relief and exasperation.

Luka smiled weakly, his heart still racing. "I'll try, but no promises."

They flew back to the rest of the strike team, the remnants of the facility crumbling behind them. The mission had been a success, but the weight of what Luka had just experienced still lingered in his mind. The Aether was far more powerful than he had realized, and his connection to it was growing stronger.

But with that power came danger. If he wasn't careful, he could lose himself to it, just as Thalia had.

"We did it," Kaela said softly, her voice filled with quiet pride.

Luka nodded, though his mind was already turning to the future. They had struck a major blow against the council, but the battle was far from over. The council would retaliate, and next time, they would be even more dangerous.

But for now, they had won.

Author's Note: Luka's connection to the Aether is deepening, but the risks are growing too. How will he handle the increasing power of the Aether without losing control? Let me know your thoughts before the next chapter!
