Izcacus finally looked up, his eyes narrowing dangerously as a guttural snarl escaped his lips. "I'm serious, Remiel. I smelled him on my way here. I couldn't even control myself."
Remiel gasped, his eyes widening. "But... how? That can't be possible." His voice wavered as he stepped back, shaking his head. "She's still alive!"
Izcacus's jaw tensed at the mention of her. The implications of that statement made his chest tighten. He didn't want to think about the tangled web of his past, not now. He lifted Scott higher in his arms, cradling him with a surprising tenderness for someone known as the "Mad Vampire."
"I don't understand it either," Izcacus admitted, his deep voice tinged with frustration. "But he's mine. Fate has decided."
Remiel's eyes narrowed as he sniffed the air around Scott. He let out a low growl. "But he's one of them," he hissed. "I can smell it on him."
