Chapter 10 - The Final Chase

The city below glimmered like a tapestry of light and steel as Jared burst through the skyline, his body a blur of momentum and rage. Super Light's taunting laughter echoed faintly in his ears, a thread of sound lost in the roaring wind and the chaos of the chase. The skyscrapers loomed, their steel frames glittering in the moonlight, and the distant hum of trucks, and cars added an undertone to the symphony of destruction that followed in their wake.

Jared's body burned with energy, his red eyes glowing brighter with every step as he pursued his rival. Each footfall on the rooftops sent shockwaves through the concrete, cracking the foundation of the buildings he passed. Far ahead, Super Light's faint afterimages danced and flickered like mirages in the distance, taunting him with their agility.

"You'll never catch me, Motherfucker!" Super Light's voice carried over the wind. "I'm untouchable!"

Jared gritted his teeth, leaping across a massive gap between two towering buildings. His muscles tensed as he soared through the air, his velocity tearing loose shards of glass from nearby windows. He landed on the next rooftop with a thunderous crack, the impact splintering the surface beneath him.

"You're not untouchable!" Jared roared, the sound of his voice reverberating across the cityscape. "You're just a douchebag who runs!"

Super Light glanced over his shoulder, his smirk barely visible against the blur of his motion. "Big words for someone still miles behind. Keep up!"

With that, Super Light kicked off the edge of a high-rise, vaulting into the open air and spinning mid-flight. Jared's eyes locked onto him, his determination boiling over into raw power. Without hesitation, he lunged after him, their trajectories carving arcs through the sky.

The chase shifted into the streets as the two speedsters descended, their impacts sending civilians scattering. vehicles screeched to a halt, their engines whining in protest, as Jared and Super Light weaved through the chaos. Super Light, ever the provocateur, knocked a Truck off balance, sending it careening toward Jared.

"Dodge this, Idiot!" Super Light called out, his voice drenched in mockery.

Jared narrowed his glowing eyes. In a blink, he sidestepped the incoming vehicle, his movements precise and deliberate. The mag-lev spun harmlessly past, colliding with an empty storefront and shattering into a cascade of sparks.

"Is that all you've got douchebag?" Jared taunted back, his voice carrying an edge of fury. His fists clenched as he pushed himself harder, his legs pumping like pistons. The city blurred around him as he gained ground, his figure becoming a streak of red and black. The sheer force of his speed tore up chunks of the asphalt behind him, sending debris flying in his wake.

Super Light laughed, his voice filled with manic glee. "Oh, you've got guts, Jared. Too bad that won't help you when you're nothing but a fucking dust on the pavement!"

The chase turned sharp as Super Light veered into an underground Subway tunnel. The confined space was a maze of glowing rails, flickering lights, and maintenance platforms, but Super Light navigated it with ease, his movements fluid and practiced. Jared followed close behind, his senses heightened by the adrenaline coursing through his veins.

Inside the tunnel, the air was thick with heat and the hum of mag-lev trains speeding by. Super Light twisted and turned, his figure illuminated by the pulsating glow of the rails. Jared pursued relentlessly, his feet skimming the ground as he closed the gap.

"You're slowing down, something wrong? Douchebag?" Jared growled, his voice echoing off the tunnel walls.

Super Light didn't respond, instead leaping onto the side of the tunnel wall and running horizontally. Jared matched the maneuver, his feet digging into the steel as sparks flew with every step. The two speedsters moved in parallel, their trajectories weaving together like strands of a helix.

Suddenly, a Subway train roared into view ahead, its sleek form barreling toward them at breakneck speed. Super Light smirked, his form flickering with afterimages as he dashed past the train with millimeters to spare. Jared, however, chose a more direct approach. He dropped to the ground, sliding beneath the train in a move so precise it seemed impossible. As the train thundered overhead, Jared's eyes locked onto Super Light once more.

"Impressive, rookie." Super Light admitted, his tone begrudgingly respectful. "But let's see how you handle THIS!."

With a snap of his fingers, Super Light activated a series of explosive traps embedded in the tunnel walls he planned before the chase. The charges detonated in sequence, sending fiery shockwaves racing toward Jared. The tunnel filled with smoke and debris, the explosions throwing up clouds of dust that obscured the path ahead.

Jared skidded to a halt, his senses scanning the chaos. Through the haze, he spotted Super Light's afterimages darting toward an emergency exit. With a growl of frustration, Jared surged forward, his speed slicing through the smoke like a blade. The heat from the explosions licked at his skin, but he didn't falter.

"I'll catch you if it's the last thing I do!" Jared roared, his voice cutting through the cacophony.

The emergency exit led to a sprawling industrial skyscraper complex, its centerpiece a massive elevator that pierced the heavens and it's floors. Super Light ascended the elevator's exterior, his afterimages flickering like ghostly shadows against the starlit sky. Jared followed, his determination unyielding.

The climb was treacherous. The elevator's surface was a labyrinth of steel beams, spinning turbines, and electrified barriers. Super Light navigated it with ease, his movements fluid and calculated. Jared, however, relied on brute force and raw speed, smashing through obstacles that stood in his way.

"You're insane!" Super Light called out, glancing back at Jared. "No one's ever chased me this far! Glad I've planned through!"

Jared's red eyes burned brighter. "Then it's about time someone did, and I'll crush you!"

As they neared the top of the elevator, the stakes grew higher. The air thinned, and the temperature dropped, but neither combatant slowed. The stars seemed closer now, their light casting an ethereal glow over the scene. Super Light paused briefly, turning to face Jared.

"This is your last chance to back down," Super Light said, his tone serious for the first time. "You don't know what you're dealing with, rookie."

Jared smirked, his fists crackling with energy. "Neither do you, douchebag."

The two clashed once more, their blows sending shockwaves through the structure. Each strike was a test of strength and speed, their movements so fast they blurred into streaks of light. The elevator groaned under the strain, its steel frame bending and warping with each impact.
