Kate Henderson and James Mason were both standing before Mr. Victor Nathan who was comfortably seated behind his desk. Standing by the side was Donald Walker with a calm demeanor
"Mr. James Mason, I sent for you, please. Have a seat." He said pointing towards the leather chair before him.
James was curious to know why he had been called to the office; his mind was thumping slowly. As his eyes drifted from Aaron to His master, Victor Nathan.
Mr. Victor leaned forward, as he cleared his throat to mouth. " I call you here for a reason, this young man," He said, pointing at Donald.
James stared at Donald and gave a nod.
"Donald came to apply as a janitor in my company, but this lady behind you stopped him. According to her, Donald is a pauper and he shouldn't be employed." He said in anger.
"As the Human resources manager, it's your duty to recruit people and interview new staff but someone else is doing your job."
Kate bent her gaze downward in shame when she noticed how their gaze was fixated on her. She said silent prayers hoping Donald would not open up on their bet.
But before she arrived at his office, Donald had already told Mr. Victor about their bet. He even explained how he knew Kate. Mr. Victor was infuriated by her actions.
James tossed his head, " I am sorry, sir. I had no idea he was around the premises."
"No, I am not angry with you. I am angry with her for what she did, it shows no level of professionalism. She acted like a thug, is that how you go about belittling your junior colleagues or people that come to apply for a position in my company." He said, with his voice filled with fury.
Kate was engrossed with sorrow and regret, she wished she could turn back the hands of time. But she couldn't, her mind was racing with several conflicting thoughts.
"Kate, why did you do such? It was bad." James' voice slowly.
"I am sorry, sir. I know what I did was bad, but I promise it will not happen again," she said in an apologetic voice.
"Miss Kate Henderson, there is no need to apologize or shed tears. I heard you made a bet with him, I am a man of integrity. He told me about it and you know what you said. Or would you want me to tell him to say what the bet was about?"
He paused and turned towards Donald, "Donald, can you state what she said."
Donald nodded his head in agreement. " Earlier, she said if I get the job, she will quit. But if I don't get the job, I will have to kneel before her and apologize," he stated.
Kate narrowed her eyes at Donald; if she could have stabbed him with her eyes, she would have done it. Each glance at him shows how she dislikes him and how badly she wants him not to be employed, but everything will take a new turn.
"You heard him, Right." He questioned.
"Yes," she gave him an approving nod. Kate was shaking profusely, her hands were trembling, and her facial expression was engrossed with panic and sorrow.
James Mason was boiling in inner anger; he knew from the seriousness of Mr Victor's voice that he could tell his lover Kate would be losing her job.
"I am sorry, sir. It was a slip of the tongue; I didn't mean to utter such statements to him. Donald and I are friends, right Donald."
"No, Kate. We are not." Donald said.
Mr. Victor shoved an envelope from his drawer and handed it to Kate, " I believe you know what it is; next time or in your next world, you will know how to treat people and not make nonsense statements."
He inhales softly and with a serious voice. "Kate, you are fired, Donald got the job. It was all your fault."
Kate's eyes widened in shock and disbelief; she fell to her knees after reading through the sentences that were written in the letter. She fell to her knees with tears shimmering down her cheeks. "I am sorry, sir; give me a second chance. I promise it will not happen again; I will learn to respect people." She pleaded with her arms folded below her jaw.
Her face was drenched in a hot sweat, she regretted her actions.
James Mason was in another realm; his heart was filled with hatred and bitterness for Donald Walker. He couldn't stand to see his lover being in pain, he clenched his fist.
"Sir, please, Kate has been one of our best staff. She deserves a second chance. I believe she did what she did out of anger." He pleaded on her behalf.
Mr. Victor gave him a cold glance, "I want this to serve as a warning to all my staff. You all should learn to respect each other." He said in fury.
Donald was happy, he maintained his composure as his mind was engulfed with excitement seeing Kate in pain. It was his first victory against her and it ended in his favor. She didn't only get humiliated but she lost her Job.
He snapped his finger and his butler stepped forward. "Take her out of my office, and inform the security that she has been fired. I don't want to see her around the premises."
"Yes, sir," Aaron replied, he grabbed Kate Henderson and took her out of the office.
"You all should leave my office," Mr. Victor commanded.
They all bowed their heads, before stepping out of the office.
