Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Robinson's voice took on a patronizing tone. "Ah yes, I've heard about your little predicament. Funny how these things have a way of coming back to bite you, isn't it?"

Mr. Davis bristled at the implication, but he knew he had no choice but to play along. "I need your assistance, Robinson. And I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get it."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, followed by a satisfied chuckle. "Well then, Mr. Davis, it seems we have some common ground after all. But before we can discuss any kind of arrangement, there's a small matter we need to attend to..."

Mr. Davis's heart sank as Robinson laid out his terms, the weight of his words pressing down on him like a vice. He knew what he had to do, even if it meant sacrificing his daughter's happiness in the process.

Mr. Davis sat his daughter and wife down in the elegant living room of their sprawling mansion, the weight of his words heavy on his shoulders.

"Kiara, Evelyn," he began, his voice grave with solemnity. "I need to speak with you both about the future of our family and our company."

Kiara and Evelyn exchanged concerned glances, sensing the seriousness of the situation. "What's wrong, dear?" Evelyn asked, reaching out to grasp her husband's hand.

Mr. Davis took a deep breath, steeling himself for the difficult conversation ahead. "Our company is in dire straits, I'm afraid. If we don't receive help in the coming months, we could be facing financial ruin. And I cannot bear the thought of us returning to poverty."

Kiara's heart clenched at her father's words, the implications sinking in like a lead weight in her stomach. "What can we do, Father?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Mr. Davis met his daughter's gaze with a pained expression. "There is a way out, Kiara. But it will require sacrifice from all of us."

Evelyn's eyes widened in alarm. "What kind of sacrifice?"

Mr. Davis hesitated, knowing the weight of his next words. "I've been in talks with Robinson, and he's offered to help us in exchange for...a marriage contract."

Kiara's breath caught in her throat, her mind reeling at the revelation. "You mean...you want me to marry someone I don't love, just to save the company?"

Mr. Davis's heart ached at his daughter's distress, but he knew he had no other choice. "I'm sorry, Kiara. But if we don't do this, we could lose everything."

Evelyn reached out to comfort her daughter, her own eyes brimming with tears. "We'll support you, darling. Whatever decision you make, we'll stand by you."

After much soul-searching and tearful deliberation, Kiara finally nodded, her resolve firm. "Alright, Father. I'll do it. For the sake of our family and our company."

Mr. Davis squeezed his daughter's hand tightly, a mixture of pride and sorrow swelling in his chest. "Thank you, Kiara. I promise, we'll get through this together."

As they embraced, Kiara couldn't shake the feeling of dread that settled over her like a shroud. But she knew that sometimes, sacrifices had to be made for the ones we love. And if marrying a stranger was what it took to save her family, then she would do it, no matter the cost.

The following morning, Kiara went to the Coffee shop to get somethings, there he found Mike. After their heated disagreement over the marriage proposal, Mike and Kiara finally reached a reluctant truce. However, lingering tensions made things awkward between them.

Mike couldn't help stealing glances at Kiara when she wasn't looking. Her strength and determination reminded him of their prior clash, triggering memories of his past trauma. He felt a confusing mix of residual animosity and a begrudging respect taking root.

Kiara noticed Mike's furtive stares and confronted him. "If you have something to say, just say it," she challenged, her tone tinged with impatience.

Mike averted his eyes. "It's nothing...I was just...never mind." He struggled to put his whirling emotions into words.

An uncomfortable silence fell between them. The path toward a functional alliance was laden with unresolved tensions still simmering beneath the surface.

Robinson eyed his son Mike warily as he walked downstairs, sensing his growing ambition and hunger for power. He knew he would need to tread carefully to maintain influence over him.

"Mike, you know how crucial this deal with the Italians is for our family's future," Robinson began. "If you can successfully negotiate the contract marriage, I vow to hand over my position to you when the time is right."

Mike considered his father's offer, cognizant that Robinson likely had ulterior motives. However, he had already taken steps behind the scenes to arrange matters with Kiara.

"You have my word, father. I will do whatever is necessary to solidify the alliance," Mike replied evenly, keeping his own plans close to the vest.

Robinson beamed, oblivious to the undercurrents at play. All his careful machinations were finally bearing fruit, or so he believed.

"You drive a hard bargain, son," Robinson said with a sly grin. "But I admire your tenacity. Very well, you have my word - get this Italian deal secured, and the reins will be yours."

Mike nodded slowly, keeping his expressions neutral. "Of course, father. You can count on me to handle this negotiation. The future of our family enterprise will be ensured."

Robinson clapped Mike on the shoulder. "That's my boy. I knew you had it in you to see the bigger picture." His eyes glinted with paternal pride...and cunning self-interest.

"If you'll excuse me, I should make preparations to leave for Italy," Mike stated, already formulating his own covert plans.

"Yes, yes, get to it then. And Mike?" Robinson's voice took on a cautionary tone. "Don't try anything foolish. This is too important."

Mike met his father's intense gaze without flinching. "You know me better than that, father. I'll get it done...by whatever means are required."

The two men stared each other down, sizing up the other's motives and intentions. So much lay unspoken beneath the surface.
