Gunfire erupted outside, bullets ripping through the warehouse walls. Nova returned fire, her gun blazing.
"Get down, Ethan!" Nova yelled, dragging me behind a stack of crates. Rachel crouched beside us.
"We have to get out of here, now!" Rachel urged, her eyes scanning the area. Nova nodded.
"Follow me!" Nova shouted, sprinting toward a side door. We burst through the door, into a narrow alley.
Bullets whizzed past us, the sound echoing off the walls. Nova fired back, covering our retreat.
As we emerged onto the street, a black SUV screeched to a halt beside us. Maya leaned out the window.
"Get in, now!" Maya yelled. We piled in, the SUV speeding away from the warehouse.
Breathless, I turned to Rachel. "Who were those people?" Rachel's expression turned grim.
"Agency operatives," she replied. "They'll stop at nothing to silence us."
Nova's eyes locked onto Rachel. "You knew this would happen." Rachel nodded.
"I had to take the risk," Rachel said. "Ethan deserves the truth."
The SUV swerved, narrowly avoiding a collision. Maya's eyes met mine in the rearview mirror.
"We're not safe yet," Maya warned. "We have to get out of the city."
