Gunfire erupted outside, bullets ripping through the warehouse walls. Nova returned fire, her gun blazing.
"Get down, Ethan!" Nova yelled, dragging me behind a stack of crates. Rachel disappeared into the chaos.
"We have to get out of here, now!" Nova shouted, grabbing my arm. We sprinted through the warehouse, dodging bullets.
A bullet grazed Nova's shoulder, and she cried out. I caught her, holding her upright.
"Keep moving!" Nova gritted, her eyes locked on the exit. We burst through the door, into the night.
A black SUV screeched to a halt beside us. Maya leaned out the window.
"Get in!" Maya yelled. We piled in, speeding away from the warehouse.
As we drove, Nova's gaze met mine. "Ethan, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought you here."
"It's not your fault," I replied, my heart still racing. "We needed to know the truth."
Maya's eyes locked onto the rearview mirror. "We've got company. Hold on."
The SUV surged forward, weaving through traffic. I held my breath, my heart pounding.
Suddenly, Maya took a sharp turn, losing our pursuers. We breathed a collective sigh.
But Nova's expression remained grim. "It's far from over. We have to get you to a safe house."
