"Roar!"
The next second, driven by their bloodthirsty instinct, the zombies lunged at Ji Wanwan and the other person.
"Ouch, I—"
Having just landed and unable to see clearly where they were, the two zombies pounced on them.
Ji Wanwan quickly conjured a Space Barrier out of instinct, enveloping herself and Xu Siming within.
"Thud!"
One of the zombies hit its head against the Space Barrier, creating a muffled sound, and sat down on the ground with a thump.
Inside the barrier, Ji Wanwan let out a sigh of relief, "That was close, I reacted quickly..."
It seemed that next time, they needed to scout the terrain before teleporting; otherwise, being sent right into a zombie's embrace would mean certain death.
Next to her, Xu Siming, with the Military Shovel in hand, was eager to try: "Junior sister, before these two zombies get up, retract the Space Barrier, I'll chop their heads off!"
Ji Wanwan said with a bemused smile, "Okk!"
The next second, the Space Barrier disappeared, and Xu Siming swiftly beheaded the two zombies.
These zombies were slow, and couldn't compare to those high-level zombies that evolved Crystal Cores in the late stages of the apocalypse; Ji Wanwan was almost certain these were just regular low-level zombies.
But with a rigorous attitude, she still put on gloves and reached her hand into the zombies' brains to search.
As expected, she didn't feel any hard Crystal Cores.
Ji Wanwan stood up with some disappointment and took off her gloves: "Let's go, check the parking lot to see if there is a car we can drive away."
Xu Siming, who was covering Ji Wanwan, tucked away his machete: "Okay."
Before the apocalypse, there were not many people at the resort, and on the way to the parking lot, they encountered only three low-level zombies, which Xu Siming took care of without Ji Wanwan even using her superpower.
The two were lucky to find an unlocked car after searching only a few vehicles.
The car still had half a tank of gas, more than enough to drive to their destination, Wanjiale Supermarket.
With the sound of the engine starting, the zombies hiding in the corners were all drawn out.
Among those zombies, Ji Wanwan saw a familiar figure—
Cheng Ya.
Not only that, she also noticed Cheng Ya's speed and agility were significantly higher than the other zombies.
Ji Wanwan instinctively felt that Cheng Ya might be an evolved high-level zombie.
She was keen to find out more, but with the number of zombies swarming from all directions of the parking lot, she didn't dare to take the risk lightly.
When the time was right, she would bring more people over.
After a few turns, the car left the parking lot, and the view in front of them suddenly opened up; inside the resort, a few scattered zombies wandered aimlessly.
The car continued forward and soon left the resort's premises.
Ji Wanwan watched the outside world intently.
The originally spacious city roads were now littered with smashed and overturned vehicles.
On both sides of the street, the buildings that were usually well-maintained now had broken doors and windows and were covered in dust, looking like the ruins after a war.
Zombies covered in blood could be seen everywhere on the streets.
These zombies, attracted by the noise of the passing vehicle, flocked towards the middle of the road, seemingly unafraid of being hit by the moving mass of steel.
Ji Wanwan did not miss the opportunity to observe these zombies and watched them very carefully along the way.
Seeing that Wanjiale Supermarket was nearing, Xu Siming glanced at the rearview mirror: "There are too many zombies following us."
Ji Wanwan shifted her gaze: "There's a Weilan Fitness Club nearby. The zombie outbreak was in the early morning, so there shouldn't be many people inside. We'll park the car nearby, run into the club as fast as we can, and I'll teleport you from there to the International Trade Building."
"Good."
Xu Siming slightly turned the steering wheel, dodging a zombie lunging at the front of the car, and quickly arrived outside the entrance of Weilan Fitness Club.
The club used full-length panoramic windows, giving them an unobstructed view inside.
Because it was early morning, there were only two zombies in janitorial uniforms inside the club.
"Whoosh—"
Ji Wanwan grabbed Xu Siming's hand, and without getting out of the car, she directly teleported into the club.
Level 2 Space Manipulation allowed her to control any space within a 50-meter range.
From inside the car to inside the club was less than 50 meters, which, for the current Ji Wanwan, was a piece of cake.
"Roar! Boom boom boom!"
The moment they landed, the car outside was besieged by zombies.
The noise alerted two zombies inside the club.
Seeing the zombies pounce, Ji Wanwan, mindful of the club's glass windows and not wanting to attract the attention of the zombies outside unnecessarily, quickly initiated a second teleportation.
"Whoosh——"
Upon landing again, the pair found themselves in a small merchandise shop next to Wanjiale.
Wanjiale, being a commercial district, had an indoor small commodities commercial street surrounding it.
At the time of the zombie outbreak, this area was bustling with activity, so logically, there should have been a lot of people.
But whether it was luck or something else, the shop they landed in was empty, presumably because the owner had fled after the outbreak.
This gave Ji Wanwan a moment to catch her breath.
Using spatial teleportation twice in succession had taken a significant toll on her spiritual power, and her face was now somewhat pale.
All of a sudden, Ji Wanwan tensed up.
Something was off!
It was too quiet!
A whole street of small commodities, even if this shop was empty, it was impossible for all the shops to be empty!
Out of nowhere, something dark loomed over Ji Wanwan's head——
"Roar!"
A creature resembling a giant bat pounced fiercely down on Ji Wanwan and Xu Siming.
"Bang bang!"
Loud thuds erupted, rapidly echoing through the quiet commercial street, the reverberations becoming increasingly unsettling.
The thing that had swooped down was wounded by the Military Shovel, then swiftly opened its wings and escaped through an air duct in the ceiling, vanishing in an instant.
Ji Wanwan and Xu Siming were still shaken.
"What was that thing?"
Xu Siming's hand, still holding the Military Shovel, hadn't lowered, and he was warily staring at the ceiling.
Ji Wanwan swallowed hard, "It seemed like a zombie, a zombie that looked both like a bat and a human."
Without time to think or discuss further, chaotic howling and footsteps were already hastily converging towards them.
The space inside the shop was cramped, and the Military Shovel couldn't be used to its full potential, putting both of them in grave danger.
Ji Wanwan gritted her teeth.
An unidentified zombie above, a Low-level Zombie Group below, she and Xu Siming were trapped between two forces and had to teleport out immediately!
"Whoosh——"
Ji Wanwan grabbed Xu Siming's hand, and with one teleport, they arrived at Wanjiale Supermarket.
The moment they landed, Ji Wanwan collapsed to the ground, unable to stop herself from dry heaving.
After three intense spatial teleportations in a row, the depletion of spiritual power made her dizzy and queasy; right then, she felt as sick as if she had stuffed a pair of stinky socks in her mouth while riding a rollercoaster over hills.
Xu Siming quickly surveyed their surroundings.
After confirming there were no zombies nearby, he immediately bent down, half lifted, half helped Ji Wanwan up from the ground.
Looking at Ji Wanwan's pale little face, Xu Siming felt a pang of distress, "Are you okay?"
He was beginning to regret agreeing to Ji Wanwan's plan to venture out.
He should have waited until he became stronger himself, at least until he had a superpower that could help or even protect Ji Wanwan, before he agreed to leave the refuge with her.
