Ho Chi Minh City is located in the northeast of the Mekong Delta, on the right bank of the Saigon River, a tributary of the Tong Nai River, 80 kilometers from the sea. It is the center of the economy, culture, science and technology, tourism, and international trade of the Southeast Asia Special Zone in Vietnam.
In the era of national governance, Ho Chi Minh City was one of five municipalities directly under the central government in Vietnam, and it was the largest city, with well-established international airport that provided flights to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Manila.
Now, although Vietnam and other countries in Southeast Asia have together formed the Southeast Asia Special Zone of Huaxia, Ho Chi Minh City's international airport is still preserved, even retaining flights to places like Bangkok.
