The three quasi-spirits, eyes filled with determination, charged at Mei in unison. Their movements were swift, each attack calculated to overwhelm her. But Mei, empowered by the crimson flames of Aistia, stood firm. With fluid motions, she parried every blow, her aura erupting into slashes of energy that deflected their assaults with ease. Her crimson flames danced around her, forming a protective shield that sent searing waves of energy toward her enemies.
Kuki attempted a swift strike from the side, but Mei countered with a spinning slash of crimson energy, forcing Kuki back. Arta came at her from above, her sword aimed at Mei's head, but Mei deflected the blow with a fiery burst that sent Arta reeling. Qupa, the smallest of them, tried to cast a binding spell, but Mei's aura shattered it before it could take hold. In a final synchronized effort, all three of the quasi-spirits launched a combined attack, but Mei raised her hand, sending out a powerful wave of energy that knocked them back.
They stumbled, shocked by the sudden force. "How… how are you still standing?" Arta asked, her voice tinged with disbelief.
Mei smiled, her eyes glowing a fierce crimson. "You want to know? It's because of a curse," she replied, her tone cold and sharp. "This curse prevents me from using my full powers under the sun. But now, in this mist, and after what you've done, I've tapped into a deeper part of my strength. You should've finished me off when you had the chance."
The quasi-spirits exchanged glances, realizing they had underestimated her. But before they could react, Mei sent another massive wave of energy crashing into them, stronger than before. The ground beneath them shook as they were hurled back, their bodies slamming into the earth with a force that cracked the ground.
Mei's eyes narrowed. "Why are you here?" she demanded, her voice echoing with authority as she prepared to unleash another wave.
Arta, struggling to her feet, gritted her teeth. "What else are we supposed to do? We were given orders by the Supreme One." She paused, her gaze lowering as she continued, "After the Great War, we were abandoned, left to wander as nothing more than ordinary quasi-spirits. But the Supreme One chose us. He picked us up when no one else would. We were lost, without purpose, unable to die, unable to live. He gave us meaning. Do you think we wouldn't serve him after that?"
Kuki, still recovering, added, "We don't care about what's evil or good. As long as we satisfy him, everything else is irrelevant." She glanced at Arta, her voice filled with a mix of fear and resolve. "We swore to stay by his side… because if we don't, we'll be lost again, drifting through the void for eternity. It's… it's terrifying."
Qupa's voice trembled as she chimed in, "That's why we follow him. If we lose his favor, we'll be abandoned again, and I… I don't want to be alone in that darkness. It's too much to bear."
Mei listened quietly, her expression softening slightly. "I see… Now everything makes sense. I'm well aware of how many species were abandoned by both gods and demons, especially those created as weapons for the war." She paused, her eyes meeting each of theirs with understanding. "It really gets lonely, doesn't it?"
The quasi-spirits looked at Mei with a mix of surprise and confusion. Her words resonated with a deep truth they had long denied. Mei continued, her tone gentle, "When someone is abandoned like that, it's easy to go insane. That's the nature of the kaijus. They were created by one of the great demons, and do you know how they increase in number? It happens when an individual is stranded for what feels like an eternity. They go mad, and a certain power starts to dwell within them, turning them into kaijus."
She paused, a small smile playing on her lips. "Well, that's just a legend. But now that I see your pain, I think I can help you."
The three quasi-spirits stared at her in shock. "Really?" Qupa asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes," Mei replied, raising her hand into the air. "As punishment for causing chaos on an alien planet, for troubling a demon lord candidate, for trying to kill my sidekick, and…" Her voice softened as she added, "For the sake of the unrested souls, I shall grant you peace. With this blow, you will perish without any pain."
Arta looked at Mei, then at her companions, and sighed. "No… I guess that's for the best." The three of them closed their eyes, their expressions calm, accepting their fate.
But the kaiju, sensing the impending doom, roared and charged at Mei, desperate to stop her. Mei, unfazed, watched its approach with a serene smile. "Well then, enjoy yourselves in your new life," she said softly.
Raising her hand toward the sky, Mei chanted, "Demonic Arts Level 227: Atomic Beam." A massive greenish-white ray shot down from a colossal magic circle that appeared above her, its light so intense it illuminated the entire area within the time-pause barrier. The beam struck with a force unlike any other, its radius wide enough to engulf the entire battlefield.
The initial blast was followed by a second, even more powerful surge, the continuous beam roaring with overwhelming firepower. The light was blinding, obliterating everything in its path. The kaiju's roar was cut short as the beam consumed it, along with the three quasi-spirits. For ten long seconds, the beam held its destructive power before finally fading away, leaving nothing but silence in its wake.
As the beam faded into nothingness, the battlefield fell into an eerie silence. The echoes of destruction lingered in the air, but all was still. A moment later, raindrops began to fall, gently at first, then gradually picking up intensity. The soft patter of rain on the scorched ground was the only sound, a stark contrast to the chaos that had just unfolded.
Mei stood there, her eyes fixed on the spot where the beam had struck. The rain poured down heavily now, drenching her crimson hair and mixing with the dirt and blood on her face. She clenched her fists, frustration evident in her expression as she muttered to herself, "In the end… I wasn't able to ask them who their Supreme One was…" She let out a weary sigh, the weight of her actions pressing down on her.
But then, a more pressing concern took hold of her. She turned quickly, her heart racing, and her eyes locked onto my fallen body. The rain was coming down in sheets, soaking through her clothes as she rushed to where I lay face down on the ground. Her knees hit the wet earth with a splash, and without hesitation, she reached out to turn me over, her hands trembling.
As she cradled my lifeless body in her arms, Mei's composure broke. Tears welled up in her eyes, blending with the rain that streamed down her cheeks. Her voice was shaky, her breath hitching between sobs. "Izumi… I… I'm sorry…," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of the pouring rain. "I wasn't able to save you…"
She held me tighter, her tears falling onto my bloodied face as she continued, "I'm… I'm really not a worthy person. Even if you used up your life force… to save me… and yet… I… I gave up… I gave up on breaking the curse…" Mei's voice cracked, and she struggled to speak through her sobs, "You… You were so brave… You're so strong… really… really strong… Unlike me… who wasn't able to stand up… when it was needed the most…"
Her tears fell harder now, and she rested her head against my chest, the sobs wracking her body. "I should have… I should have protected you… But I was too weak… too afraid…" Her voice faltered, and she paused, struggling to find the words. "I… I was always the one to protect others… But when it came to you… I couldn't… I failed…"
Mei's sobs grew louder as she clung to me, her tears flowing freely. "Izumi… you… you gave me so much hope… so much love… even when you had nothing left… And I… I couldn't even return that… I'm so sorry… I'm so… so sorry…" Her voice broke again, and she buried her face in my chest, the rain soaking through her clothes and mixing with her tears.
She stayed like that for what felt like an eternity, her sobs the only sound in the world. The rain poured down relentlessly, but Mei didn't care. All that mattered was the lifeless body she held in her arms, the person who had given everything for her, and whom she had failed to protect.
"Izumi… I… I wish… I could hear your voice… just one more time…," Mei whispered, her voice barely a whisper now. "I… I want to tell you… how much you mean to me… how much I… I love you…"
Her voice trailed off as she closed her eyes, pressing her forehead against mine. The rain continued to fall, and for a moment, it felt like the whole world was crying with her….

In a vast courtyard surrounded by towering stone walls, a group of young trainees sparred under the watchful eyes of their instructors. Among them, a little girl with bright pink hair stood out. She was about 12 years old, her hair cascading down to her shoulders, and her violet eyes gleamed with determination.
Mei, still unaware of her true potential, was one of the youngest in the group. Her family had always thought she was just an ordinary child, but there was something different about her that none of them could quite put their finger on. She had always been stronger, faster, and more skilled than the other children her age. People whispered that she was blessed, a gifted child. Yet, Mei didn't understand what any of it meant.
The air around her was filled with the sounds of clashing swords, grunts of effort, and the shouts of instructors correcting their students. Mei's small hands gripped the hilt of her wooden training sword tightly as she squared off against another trainee, her heart racing with excitement and a hint of nervousness.
It was during these training sessions that Mei's abilities began to shine through. Even at 12, she had a natural affinity for the demonic arts, a fact that would only become clear to her later. For now, she was just a little girl who loved to fight, who felt alive when she was sparring with the other trainees.
One day, after the usual training sessions, Mei's instructor pulled her aside. "Mei," he said, his voice serious but kind, "there's something special about you. I want you to try something. Focus on your energy, and let it flow through you naturally."
Mei nodded, though she didn't quite understand. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, feeling the energy within her. It was like a river, flowing smoothly and powerfully, waiting to be unleashed. As she focused, something within her shifted, and before she knew it, a dark purple aura began to surround her small frame.
"**Demonic Arts Level 16: Purple Aistia!**" her instructor called out, recognizing the energy she had summoned. Mei's eyes snapped open, and she saw the purple energy swirling around her, crackling with raw power. She gasped, surprised and a little frightened by the intensity of it. Her instructor, however, was stunned. No trainee, especially one so young, had ever manifested such a high-level technique so effortlessly.
The other trainees stopped their sparring to stare at Mei in awe, whispers spreading through the group. "Is she really just 12?" "How is she able to do that?" "She's a prodigy!"
But one voice cut through the others—a girl with long, dark hair and fierce, determined eyes stepped forward. Candice, one of the top trainees, wasn't about to let Mei outshine her. "Mei," she called out, her voice steady, "I challenge you."
Mei blinked, her heart skipping a beat. She had sparred with Candice before, but this felt different. There was an intensity in Candice's gaze that made Mei's pulse quicken. The instructor nodded, allowing the duel to commence.
Mei took a deep breath, her grip tightening on her sword. This was it. The moment she would realize that she was not just a gifted child but something more. Something powerful.
The air was thick with tension as the two girls faced each other, and then, without a word, they charged. The courtyard erupted into a flurry of movement as the battle began.
The courtyard fell silent as Mei and Candice faced each other. The other trainees formed a wide circle around them, their eyes filled with anticipation. Even the instructors, usually stern and focused, watched with a mix of curiosity and concern.
Candice twirled her wooden sword with ease, her confidence evident in her every movement. "You may have everyone else fooled, Mei," she said, her voice carrying across the courty
ard, "but I'm not going to be intimidated by some flashy power. Show me what you've got."
