Chapter 1: The Hidden Legacy

"we will meet again under the same star"

Those were last words before I lost them forever. No matter how had I tried to hold on to that promise, each day without them and her was a constant reminder of my failure.

>>>>>LET START WITH OUR ACADEMY TIME WHERE EVERYTHING IS STARTED"

The academy halls were silent, save for the distant hum of the engines that kept the massive structure afloat in the vastness of space. Aarav stood alone, his back pressed against the cold metal wall, his breath shallow and uneven. The harsh, artificial light above flickered intermittently, casting long, wavering shadows that danced around him like restless phantoms.

He felt the weight of a thousand unseen eyes upon him, the ever-watchful gaze of the academy's surveillance systems and the people who controlled them. They had been monitoring him for as long as he could remember. Aarav knew he was different, marked somehow, even before the system had awakened within him. He had tried to blend in, to play the part of an ordinary cadet, but the whispers had always followed him. And now, he felt their presence more keenly than ever.

Why are they watching me? The question gnawed at him, unanswered and unyielding. His great-grandfather, they said, had been someone important—a man of great power and mystery. But no one spoke of it openly, not to Aarav, not even to his family. Only shadows of a forgotten past remained, lingering in hushed conversations and guarded glances.

Coming to the Interstellar Academy was supposed to offer him a fresh start, a chance to prove himself on his terms. Instead, it had become a prison of sorts, a gilded cage with invisible bars. And then the system had awakened, a whisper in the darkness, a silent companion that only he could hear.

At first, Aarav had been terrified, unsure of what it meant. The system had spoken to him in fragments, offering glimpses of knowledge far beyond his understanding. Blueprints of ships and technology that were centuries ahead of anything humanity had yet conceived filled his mind. At night, he would lie awake, staring at the ceiling, trying to piece together the puzzle of his own existence.

Today was different. Today, the academy's final assessment for the Space Captain's Program was set to begin. Aarav could feel the tension in the air, thick and suffocating. The other cadets moved around him, their faces masked with determination and anxiety. But for Aarav, the stakes were higher than a mere test. He felt the presence of something more—a hidden force, pushing him toward a destiny he could not yet see.

Then it happened. A sudden vibration in his chest, more intense than usual, like the system was waking up fully for the first time.

Incoming transmission…

The voice wasn't robotic but almost human, infused with urgency. Aarav stiffened, glancing around to ensure no one else heard it.

"Aarav, focus," the voice commanded. It was calm yet carried an undeniable authority. "Directive Alpha-One activated. You are to complete the test, but remain inconspicuous. Follow the hidden path to learn more."

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, centering himself. The voice—this mysterious dispatcher—had spoken to him before, but never like this. Now, it seemed more than just a system function. It had intent, urgency, and seemed aware of something he wasn't.

"Cadet Aarav," a voice boomed through the corridor, breaking the tense silence. Captain Raghav's voice was sharp and commanding, echoing off the metal walls. "Your turn."

Aarav opened his eyes and stepped forward, his face calm, his movements deliberate. He could feel the eyes of the other cadets on him, their curiosity mingled with suspicion. He had always been an enigma to them, an outsider with secrets he dared not share.

He approached the simulation pod, a sleek, intimidating machine that stood in the center of the chamber. Its surface was cold to the touch, the metal smooth and unyielding. Aarav paused for a moment, feeling the weight of the moment pressing down on him. He glanced up at Captain Raghav, who watched him with an expression of mild interest, his eyes narrowed as if searching for something hidden.

"Good luck," the captain muttered, though his tone was far from sincere.

Aarav nodded, stepping into the pod. The hatch closed behind him with a soft hiss, sealing him inside. The world outside faded away, replaced by a dark, empty void. Then, with a flicker, the simulation sprang to life around him. A massive starship appeared on the screen, caught in the gravitational pull of a dying star. The ship's hull was breached, its systems failing. Alarms blared in his ears, the sound harsh and relentless.

"Remember, Aarav," the dispatcher's voice interjected, softer this time, almost a whisper. "Your goal is not merely to pass but to survive. Deactivate the external sensors before you finish."

Aarav's hands moved over the controls almost instinctively. The dispatcher's instructions flowed into his actions seamlessly, his fingers dancing over the interface with purpose. He saw the ship's flaws, the weak points in its structure, and the failing systems. His mind raced, processing data at a speed that should have been impossible.

He allowed himself to make a few mistakes, to fumble with the tools just enough to look like he was struggling. The seconds ticked by, each one feeling like an eternity. He could feel the eyes on him even now, watching, waiting for him to slip, to reveal himself.

"Quickly, Aarav, they're monitoring the mainframe. Disable now!" The dispatcher's tone grew urgent, almost panicked.

He hesitated for only a moment, then deftly overrode the sensors, his movements swift and decisive.

At the last moment, he completed the task, the ship's systems stabilizing as the alarms ceased. The simulation flickered, and the pod hatch opened with a soft hiss. Aarav stepped out, his face carefully composed, his breathing steady.

There was a murmur of approval from the cadets, but Aarav could feel the tension in the room. Captain Raghav approached him, his expression unreadable.

"Well done, Cadet Aarav," the captain said, his voice neutral. "You've passed… barely."

Aarav nodded, allowing a faint smile to touch his lips. He knew he had done more than just pass. He had played his role perfectly, stayed in the shadows where he belonged. For now.

"Good," the dispatcher's voice returned, more controlled, almost pleased. "Now proceed to Deck 9, Storage Bay 14. A package awaits. Trust the shadows, Aarav."

Aarav's heart quickened. He would obey—for now. The dispatcher was guiding him toward something more, something hidden in the shadows. And whatever it was, it would be the key to his past… and his future.

To be continued...
