Chapter 38 - Mountain

-Vampires are different beings, do not compare your morals, your feelings and values with theirs. We are similar, we have a similar appearance and shape but our way of seeing the world is different from theirs. They are not afraid of pain and murder, they may feel it and avoid it, but for them it is something much more natural and indifferent. The death of their own may be something they do not want, but on the day of their deaths they are as indifferent as a block of ice. Diary of human researcher, Name lost due to the conditions of the diary - Year 2028

Victor and Artur, left 30 minutes ago before Valery met with Stelle.

At this point Victor was already tired and sat down on a log just a few meters from the entrance of the academy.

"We just left but you're already tired" murmured Artur rubbing the tip of his nose, it goes without saying that Victor's role is the most important 'Please don't let's binge, we have to move quickly'.

Victor was breathing slowly and deeply. Recovering his condition quickly, he set the frarola with a soft flame that barely allowed him to see Victor in this darkness on the floor.

"I didn't expect that place to be a labyrinth" Victor pointed with the thumb of his hand at the academy.

Artur looked back at the academy.

"Yes, the first time I arrived its passages were as confusing as the noble flags I had to learn."

"You won't get in trouble for running away from classes?" asked Victor knowing more or less from Valery's words what was being done right now.

"Not at all, they are just empty names that don't interest me" said Artur indifferently looking back at Vcitor who was almost recovered.

Victor, though not yet fully recovered, got up from the floor. He wiped his pants and looked at Artur.

"Let's move on."

Artur led the way, a path that seemed to be planned and with a fixed destination.

"Do you know where we are going?" asked Victor.

"Honestly, I kind of do, but whether or not what we're looking for is in this direction is out of my hands."

"So where are we going are there humans like me?"

"Yes, I think so and I hope so."

"How?" Victor knew or believes, that all humans are not in farms or cells. Those who were not there could only be dead.

"We are not like the humans, we are not so many as to occupy so much land. The cities of the vampires are not the totality of their territory, it expands outside those walls."

"What does that have to do with it?"

"That there is a lot of territory that the vampires can't oversee too much of our small population, we don't have more than 2 or 3 billion inhabitants, not like you humans who used to have 10 or 11 billion inhabitants."

"They are not so few either" replied Victor

"Well, the thing is that there is no real data to know, we could be much less than what I just told you. We were very friendly with each other, but we didn't trust each other either. So apart from easy to find out things like the lord of the territory and its location and some other details it is difficult to know if in that big cities there is really enough population to inhabit it".

"You haven't seen Valery's territory and how they live?"

"Honestly, no."

"Victor, you are very strange. I don't trust you, but my lady trusts you and that's enough for me" Artur didn't know Victor in any sense, he didn't see him when he was almost a vegetable, he didn't have a reason to believe in him either. He was a human and he was a Vamprio, one of the beings that took his land and his world.

If he wanted to betray him and take revenge it was now in this plan.

At Artur's sudden words, Victor blinked before smiling slightly.

"I hope to earn your trust," he said sincerely as he continued to walk behind Artur's back.

Time passed, they stopped multiple times because of Victor's poor condition. Artur even offered to carry Victor's backpack with his food and water, as well as clothes. Victor had his pride and wanted to take care of his own things, if there came a time to run for his life he was sure he would not mind using Artur as a horse if necessary, but for now that was not the case.

Still, with a slow last 7 hours of travel, even though it should have been a 5 hour ride.

Victor approached the side of the mountain where he was, he could still see the mountain where the academy was and Victor could see the human farm at the foot of the mountain. Next to the abandoned village which had been almost demolished.

"It's been so long since we left the academy, but we are still so close."

"Surely we'll see humans here? it doesn't seem like a place where humans who are still trying to resist you are hiding so close."

"That it is so close is perhaps a minor detail, you should think about what is the real reason for being here" Artur replied, looking around.
