Continuing their search up the mountain, Artur and Victor walked along, dragging his sore leg.
"Couldn't we wait a little longer before hurting me?" Victor said, looking at his dirty and torn clothes, not only that his skin could be seen a little dark and it was not only because of the dirt but also because of the bruises from the blows that Artur had to give him.
It was very simple the reason why Victor let Artur tear his clothes and let him beat him.
"Shhh... I think I hear them" Artur said gesturing for him to hurt himself silently. "Keep going in that direction.... don't forget the plan" Artur said moving away from Victor's side.
Victor looked in the direction Artur pointed to and even though nervous, with a loud heartbeat that should have been heard by Artur, he raised the lamp to his side. He lifted the hand lamp he was carrying and headed in the direction pointed by Artur.
As he walked he tried to change his expression, one of pain, of sadness, but at the end he wanted to keep a neutral look.
Voices reached Victor's ears.
x-x-x-x
Juliana and Marco were eating some freshly heated beef jerky at the small campfire in front of them. Listening to their scout about the situation on the human farm.
It certainly didn't sound bad to Julina, but it wasn't life either. There was a clear line between living like a human and living like cattle.
Her brother at her side was eating with his one arm, wounded by the struggle for survival against a vampire.
Among the 27 soldiers here he was the only one who had fought a vampire and lived to tell the tale. He is a hero in this ruined world.
None of us here had fought, not a single moment on the battlefield, but the will and desire to fight was clear to all of us. Obviously, they were more words than actions.
By the time they were going to fight long ago, they realized that it was a lost fight. The vampires attacked their base and they were just soldiers who had finished their training. The war lasted very little time and was a total loss for humanity.
The one who stayed behind was Marco, he was braver than all of them.
"Bosses do you like the meat I brought?" Said a subordinate who had the youngest appearance, even though the age was the same among all.
"Yes, it's good, thank you, Tim," said Juliana.
Marco ate in silence next to his sister, he didn't want to take the leadership of his group, he only listened to his sister because they needed someone who was emblematic.
Even though they argued about it, especially Marco. In the end he had no choice but to accept it reluctantly.
Gradually in Marco's vision a light appeared. It was difficult to see without mentioning the spectacular mist that now covered the world, not to mention that because of the fog it was now darker and more difficult to see the surroundings.
"Take your weapons" whispered Marco as he held the strange rifle at his side.
Seeing her brother's concern, Juliana also took the rifle and the soldiers as well. Each one moved slowly and quietly, without making much noise they took the rifles and took aim.
When they saw an unknown human they did not let their guard down, some of them pointed to other sides of the road.
Being in a cave, there was only one entrance so it was an advantageous position when they only had one shot.
"They're really here..." Victor said, with a tired and pained tone, but there was a slight relief in his eyes.
None of the soldiers lowered their weapons, they kept aiming.
"They know we're here," Marco said as he saw a familiar strategy.
The problem was that the human in front of him was not a familiar one. In short, he was just sent to fall prey to bullets.
"Yes, they know" replied Victor who managed to hear his words.
Marcus didn't even try to fight, he raised his arms in surrender but his sister didn't react the same way.
"Then we have to fight!" he said in a strong way.
"They are not here" Victor answered immediately, cutting off the ideas '"I have things to tell you so we better sit down, we don't have much time".
"Keep watch" Juliana said to her soldiers as she stood up, silver blade in hand.
"Speak."
"The vampires know you're here."
"If you already said that, tell us what we don't know" she pointed her blade at Victor.
"But something happened"
"They are aware of the Vampire academy on that mountain" Victor pointed to the tall, large mountain near the farmhouse"
Marco and Juliana frowned at the ignorance of this.
They thought that since vampire culture is as if they were nobles, they would have governesses and home schooling. That is not so far from the truth but the real education is in the academy.
All the vampires in the world go to that academy, it is an unwritten law for vampires to be educated in that academy. It is a bleeding place for vampire education.
"What happened? Enough of your dramatic silences speak up!"
"The vampires are at war with each other, this place was going to be for the education of the young vampires but they already left. So the remaining students..."
"Remaining students?"
"Yes, the vampires go to school twice, when they are young and when they turn 100 years old."
"Continue"
"So what's left are nobles who lead their clans, mostly European vampires . From our lands, although some are from other continents... we can still take a little revenge" The last words sounded deep and full of desire.
Victor told more details, his words sounded like music and a hypnotic song full of illusion for Juliana. An attack that could harm vampires was something she wished for, no, that all humans wished for.
Except Victor, who wanted peace.
"The plan sounds good but are you sure?"
"Yes I heard my master... that bastard who would gather them together with the same intention to attack them, it's impossible for them not to attack each other in a pack when they are all together. What better time for us to attack?"
