I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. I knew what I saw, and I knew what I felt. John was hiding something from me.
I decided to do some digging. I started by checking his email, looking for any messages from Emily. And then, I saw it. A message from Emily, inviting John to meet up at a hotel.
My heart sank. I felt like I had been punched in the gut.
I confronted John, my voice shaking with anger and sadness. "I know what's going on," I said. "I know about Emily."
John's expression changed, and he looked guilty. "I can explain," he said.
But I didn't want to hear it. I didn't want to hear his excuses or his lies.
"You're having an affair, aren't you?" I demanded.
John hesitated, and then nodded. "Yes," he said. "I'm sorry."
I felt like my world had been turned upside down. I felt like I was living in a nightmare.
"Why?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
John shrugged. "I don't know," he said. "I was weak. I made a mistake."
But I knew it was more than that. I knew he had been lying to me for months, maybe even years.
"I want a divorce," I said, my voice firm.
John looked shocked, but I knew it was what I had to do. I had to protect myself, and I had to move on.
