Aurora sat in the cold, uncomfortable chair at the police station, her hands trembling slightly as the officers stood over her.

They had asked her several times to call someone—her guardian, anyone who could come and bail her out.

But she couldn't.

She wouldn't.

She hadn't stolen the jewelry piece, and calling someone to pay for it would only make her seem guilty.

Her mind raced as she thought about calling Daemon.

But the image of his cold, disappointed face stopped her every time.

How could she even begin to explain this mess?

And what would it do to his name, his reputation, if people found out they were married?

No, she couldn't let that happen.

She wouldn't be the one to drag him down.

"I didn't take it," she repeated for what felt like the hundredth time.

Her voice was shaky, her heart pounding. "You have to believe me."

But the police officers weren't listening.
