Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Defective Frame

Magical weapons. Could people so devoid of mana use such weapons? The mana capacity of the weapons forged for the fae were at least 3000. They acted as batteries where they sucked on the wielders mana to replenish themselves. This group of people in this continent were severely lacking in mana. They barely even reached 100 apart from Luton who was a foreigner. I don't know how they were going to use them. The Prince had a mana capacity of 50, it was impossible to hand over a weapon with at least 60 times his mana capacity because it would suck all his energy probably causing death. It was not possible for any of them to wield such weapons without significant risks. Jenga was a special case because at a mana capacity of 60 million, it had a conscience. Regardless, a mana capacity of 50 was more than enough to cast magic spells in civilian standards. During the battle at the great wall, soldiers ranged from 500 – 1200. Civilians usually had mana reserves of between 70 for those whose mana aptitude test were light red to around 300 in higher scores. I could teach them some magic but I would need to find out what elements they could use. "Sir Chrono, I was asking if it is possible to procure such weapons." The general asked again. My mind had wondered of and I had forgotten the question. "Your level of strength is too low. You could buy the weapon from the gnomes but it would be impossible for you to wield them." Ii answered. "Gnomes? Is that a country?" The Prince asked. I had only told them about the Island of Despair and not mentioned the Yarran continent. It was not about keeping a secret but simply there was no opportunity to introduce the subject. "No. Gnomes are another species very gifted in artisan work. They can build almost anything." I said. I then went on explaining how magnificent their cities and technology were. "Air ships. Like boats that fly?" The general asked. "Yes. They are as impressive on the inside as they are huge." I answered. The prince looked at me with awe. It looked like there was something he was hesitant to say so I nudged him on."Do you think we can form diplomatic relations with your countries?" The Prince asked. "Zari here is the Dragon Princess. Not to be rude but that race is very self-sufficient." I said. "So Zari is like your senior?" The general asked. "Not quite. I am the Princess of the fire dragons. Chrono is the sole Thunder Dragon in existence. That is a different family line. Chrono is also the leader of the humans in our Island so maybe you can form diplomatic relations through him. They call him The White Eagle." Zari said. White Eagle. I had forgotten that moniker. "Why would they call a thunder dragon a white eagle? No, as a matter of fact why would the leader of humans be a dragon?" The Prince asked. That was actually a very sound argument. My lifespan is at least 10,000 years as a thunder dragon, I can't be the White Eagle for that long depriving other people the chance to have this position. "I am the head of military affairs, not a bureaucrat. Unfortunately I can't handle such delicate matters." I answered. "How about holding military exercises first and then we can go from there." The Prince asked. I don't know much about politics but I think military exercises are held between allies. The heads of each nation currently don't know about each other's existence. "There is a reason why we could not train you Roy. The difference in our strengths was too great. That is likely what you will encounter on our Island." I said. The soldiers there are at least six to fifty times their level of strength. "However, we can take you there with a few emissaries which I think that would be to your liking." I asked Roy. "Yes. That is more than enough." Roy said while smiling. "How are we going to get there? I also need to see the weaponry your people possess." The general asked. Indeed, how do I get a suitable transport for the foreign dignitaries? "By the time we get to that point, it is safe to assume that we shall be prepared enough." The Prince answered. He was dead set on having diplomatic relations with us at whatever cost. Sensing this, the general did not push the matter any further. It was now a few hours to midday. The dragons were still unconscious for the last 22 hours. "You guys should get back home. I can fly you there." I said. "Yes. I am eager to ask father for permission to set on to your lands." The Prince said enthusiastically. I flew with them once more in human form and landed inside the castle walls. A few guards were alarmed and came to apprehend the 'intruder' but once they caught sight of the prince, they left. We said our goodbyes I began to fly away. "I am going back to Zari. We can talk again later when I am back." I said while levitating above them. I then flew at top speed back to Zari. I had missed flying around carelessly without minding anybody's safety. It was really troublesome to travel with people because Inertia was a very troublesome force if not considered carefully. I met Zari stretching her body and nice she caught sight of me she smiled and asked, "Are you ready?" I nodded my head and transformed to my dragon form. I was only going to use physical attacks to have a better coordination of my body. Fire Dragons had existed for countless millennia and their bodies had adapted to their needs. Their tails, ridges on their body and claws were specifically adapted for their environment. What I faced as a new species was very peculiar. My dragon body was plain. There wasn't any meaningful body adaptation because I was the first of my kind. I had a Body Transformation skill that I had gained on my second spear throw during the battle of the great wall. I was going to utilize this skill to hasten my evolution by a few millennia.

[Noted]

"Zari. Let's go." I thundered. Zari changed to dragon form and we began sparring away from the unconscious dragons. Zari started with long range ice attacks. She formed large ice spears and sent them my way at full speed. I used my wings to cover my body but alas they were too weak. I unintentionally cried out in pain. So my wings were too weak and were now filled with holes. My body was able to withstand the impact but a very small portion of kinetic energy was turned electric. I had just found two weaknesses in my body during the first wave of attacks. One was that my wings were too weak for fight and protection and second was that the efficiency of turning kinetic energy to electrical was very low. This was an eye opening activity. The long range ice spears persisted and I began to experiment with blocking using my tail. I discovered that although it was thicker and stronger than that of normal fire dragons, its tip was poorly reinforced. In fact, I felt pain when targeted at that point. This was a massive blind spot if I was to face any strong foes and by bad luck I ran out of mana. "Chrono, aren't you going to attack?" Zari taunted me. My wings were full of holes so flight in the short term was out of the question. The electric energy I had accumulated was also too low for multiple attacks. I took a nearby giant rock and threw it at Zari. It missed by a very large margin. My scales and skin were too rigid hindering my motion. "Are there any other challengers you invited and didn't tell me?" Zari mocked my effort with a laughter. The shoe was now on the other side. I began trying to sprint towards Zari like a normal four legged creature but that was also met with a few challenges. My knees did not bend far enough and my large body swung from light to left severely affecting my balance. If it were not for magic, this was likely the least favorable dragon body of any dragon and sub dragon species. I mean even the wyvern's body was better than this junk. "Sheesh Chrono. Can't even run properly can you?" Zari taunted. I did not mind it because in our next sparring, my body was going to be fully adapted with Jenga's aid. Zari began using fire attacks from the sky. I was not permitted to use magic hence I could not heal my damaged wings. It was unpleasant having fire come into contact with my open wounds and so I resulted to running around the battlefield. I discovered a lot of mobility issues. It was impossible for me to make sharp turn without falling down. Once I was down, it took monumental effort to get back on my feet. It was also impossible for me to make sudden stops when running at full speeds without falling on my face. This frame was disastrous.

[Agreed. I have noted all the challenges from this battlefield.]
