Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Answers

The prisoners were now taken back to the city. "This should be more than enough to discuss a peace treaty." Roy said. "Those Lokain soldiers are barbarians. They might use this as an excuse to continue the war, we can't be sure." The General answered. "Chrono. Let's go." Zari said. She led the way. We were heading towards the Priestess. "Priestess, we need to ask you a few questions." I said. "Aah. Yes follow me." She said. We went back to the temple after excusing ourselves. "What did you wish to ask?" The Priestess said after we sat down. "The location of the Arachnid General." I said. "What is your aim? Do you intend to fight it?" the priestess asked. "Yes. I intend to eliminate it." I said. The priestess looked me with doubts filling her eyes. "I got a vision yesterday from the goddess. For you to injure the Arachnid, you have to grow ten times stronger than you are now." She said. Ten times? Ten times to injure it? So more than ten times to kill it? "Follow me Sir Chrono." The priestess said. I followed her to a room in the interior of the castle. "Do you know what you will be facing?" The priestess began. "Yes the Arachnird." I answerd. I thought I had made this clear? "No. you will be facing the god of this world." The Priestess answered. "god?" I asked shocked. "Yes. Do you know the ranking of gods?" the priestess asked. "No. I do not know them." I answered. She began explaining to me the different rankings.

Rank 7: SUPREME GODS

Rank 6: GODS example Hydra

Rank 5: DEMIGODS example Arachnid, Sea Serpent, Titan

Rank 4: LOCAL DEITY example goddess of harvest

Rank 3: WORLD HEROES

Rank 2: NATIONAL HEROES example Chrono Silva.

Rank 1: LOCAL HEROES

"Do you now understand what I am saying. Your current level of strength is insufficient." The Priestess said. "I can't believe it. I am a rank two?" I muttered. This is bad. How then am I supposed to challenge the gods? "The location of the Arachnid is not known to me. However, the god of wisdom and knowledge may have that information." The Priestess said. "I have never heard about such a god being worshiped?" I said. "The gods exists even without believers. Believers only strengthen their power." Priestess answered. She went on to explain that there are supreme gods of knowledge and wisdom who rule over the others of their kind. Local deities are often part of a supreme god's clan. "Do you see that gate?" the priestess asked. "Yes. I do." I answered. "Go through it. It is the pathway to meet the goddess." The Priestess said. Meet the goddess? That's crazy. I did not hesitate, I stood up from my seat and entered the gate. Why is it so cold in here? There is no ligh… "Mortal. That which you seek can only be given once you prove worthy. Head to the temple of the god of war." The voice said. In an instant, I was teleported back outside the gate. "What happened? What did you see?" the priestess asked. "I did not see anything. It was cold and a voice spoke telling me to head to the temple of god of war." I answered. "That will be a challenge because we are at war with them. But if you disguise yourself you may have a chance entering there." The priestess said. "Yes that will not be a problem. I am leaving right away." I said. I was in a hurry because I did not know the timeline of events and was determined not to be caught off guard. I walked out of the secluded room and met Zari outside. "What is going on?" Zari asked. "I am heading to the temple of the god of war for answers. This is a personal task I must complete alone. Stay here, I will be back in a few days or so." I said. "Okay. I will operate from here but I will search for the den using my own ways." Zari answered. "That is good. We need to try all ends." I said. I went down to the prison where the Lokain army was held. The guards did not offer much resistance once I introduced myself. "The Sir Chrono?" "He travelled with our savior." "Let him in." The savior? Do they mea Zari? Anyway I am too busy to deal with that now. A prisoner was brought for me and I began interrogating him.

[The prisoner is not speaking. The words hold no intent.]

So he is just blabbering and wasting my time. "Bring me another one." I motioned the guard. The case was repeated again and again. I was now o the eight person who was also just blabbering. "Sir Chrono. The seven you summoned before have died." A guard said. Dead? Why? They were fine a few moments ago! I rushed there to take a look. It was horrific, I had asked the guards to place them in a separate room for further questioning and investigation.

[This is curse magic.]

"Curse magic everyone get back." I said. Curse magic? What kind of magic is that?

[It is a derived form of Supreme Magic, Life Magic]

[Life Magic is divided to Life Creation Magic which the Hydra wields and Life Manipulation Magic which you wield. It…]

[Affirmative. You have life manipulation magic. This allows you to evolve species, change to a different species and acquire their powers.]

[Life creation magic allows The Hydra to create new species. Various derived forms such as necromancy from the giant serpent can also be obtained.]

[Life Creation Magic. It is almost ten times more powerful than yours. If you intend on facing The Hydra, I suggest you defeat the three of the Generals first.]

Jenga is very straight forward today. No beating around the bush.

[Yes, in other worlds. Here only Life Magic as the Supreme magic, Spiritual magic that local deities have and elemental magic for the common species.]

That is really good to know. I can't believe I was going to face the arachnid without knowing such important details. The soldiers here have a curse that activates when they are interrogated. It seems I will not get to know more about the Lokain kingdom. Jenga has no knowledge of such things because they are constantly changing. However, things like magic types in this world will most likely remain permanent as they are. It seems I will be going in blind. I asked for the general direction of the Lokain Empire from the soldiers. I then changed my clothing to match and fit in the area. I informed Zari of my departure and flew towards that direction. I flew high up in the air to observe the kingdom in secret. Are those statues? Very large statues were observed throughout the kingdom. Some held spears, others shields, bows and one held a giant hammer. This kingdom really takes war seriously. The buildings were not too bad either. Although they lacked the expensive finishing in Orthon kingdom, they were uniform and neat. I flew around the capital city a few more times before deciding to land at a nearby town first to collect information. It was afternoon by now. I landed a little far away from the town and walked towards it on foot. There was a line of carriages offering to take people to the city for two silver coins. Money? I should have carried some. Do I go back? No. I need to be as discreet as possible. I can't have a war start on my account. Furthermore, I need this manpower to deal with the millions of spiders that will be emerging soon. I should contain all spiders within this continent and for that to happen, needless loss of lives is not allowed. What do I do now? "Looking for an escort to the next village. I am willing to pay four silver coins." I heard a man shouting. He looks wealthy enough but why is nobody going there? "Are you cray old man? That path is filled with bandits." Another person answered. Bandits? That's it? This should be no problem then. "I will take you there." I said. I had asked Jena to turn to an inconspicuous shield and sword. "You will? Thank the heavens. We only need to ride two horses with this medicine there. Re you ready to leave now?" He asked. "Yes let us go." I answered. We rode to the opposite direction of the capital city and true enough, we were attacked by bandits. "Leave that medicine there. I will not kill you if you follow my instructions." A feeble voice said. I looked around and saw most of this people did not even have weapons, only hoes and sticks. "May I ask how you knew it was medicine?" I asked. "Don't play dumb with us. The spiders they…they…" the man hesitated. "The spiders?" I shouted.
