Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: Finally caught you

The smirk on his face grew even wider this time.

I watched as he slowly sauntered over towards me, closing the gap between us in a few large strides. He stopped before my desk, reaching to pull the chair from underneath the table before he plopped right down to rest on the chair comfortably as though he was in the comfort of his own home.

"No hello or how are you? I thought you have always been very polite and well-mannered," he remarked as a smile played on his lips and satisfaction washed over him. "It's nice seeing you again though, Aurelia. How have you been?" He asked as he placed his hands behind the back of his head and leaned back into the chair casually with a nonchalant expression etched onto his face.

"Been good until you appear in my office," I retorted and a deep chuckle emerged from his throat, amusement dancing in his light blue eyes as he looked at me.

"Oh come on now, aren't you happy to see me?" He asked before leaning forward and getting dangerously close to me. His face was merely inches away from mine and I could even feel his hot breath fanning my neck as he spoke. "Or are you afraid that I would do something because of what you pulled at my house the other day?" He taunted me relentlessly this time, contempt swirling in the depths of his distant eyes.

Tension brewed in the air, hanging between us like a thick blanket and the low chuckle that left my lips sliced right through it.

"I merely told her the truth," I stated, my voice filled with certainty, never once breaking off eye contact. "I think she deserves to know."

He let out a loud scoff as he rolled his eyes upon hearing my response. He pressed his palms onto the desk and anger became clearly visible on his face.

"Don't act like the good guy, Aurelia," he spat the words out like they were poison in his mouth with a look of disgust plastered across his face.

I let a laugh slip through the gaps of my fingers as a smirk morphed itself onto my lips. "I never intended to. I never said I wasn't a bad person," I admitted boldly, deliberately drawing each word out as if I was savouring each and every single syllable.

"I knew it," he sneered. "I know you have your own motive, I know you were trying to ruin and sabotage my relationship with Stella," he snarled with a disdainful scorn.

I raised my brow at him, the corners of my lips twitched upwards into an amused smile as we locked eyes.

"Your relationship with Stella? So now you finally admit that you and her are more than just friends?" I asked.

My question caught him off guard as a look of surprise and shock crossed his face for a fleeting moment before it was quickly replaced with an unbothered expression that masked his features.

He slammed his palm against the table this time, his features contorting into an angry expression as his eyes widened with rage. "Watch what you are saying, Aurelia," he warned, his voice heavy with a threat. "Don't come here spouting nonsense," he said through gritted teeth.

A chuckle left my lips, an incredulous look plastered across my face. "You were the one barging into my office spouting nonsense," I retorted in a calm tone. "All I wanted to know is why are you here and you went on and on about things I didn't ask about," I commented, my tone carrying a slight edge to it.

He inhaled deeply, his demeanour shifting in a split second as a smirk appeared on his lips. "Fine, I will tell you…" his voice trailing off in anticipation as a knowing look twinkled in his light blue eyes. There was a short pause before he spoke up again. "Don't worry, I'm not going to do anything…" he taunted.

"I'm not worried at all," I said, my voice remained unwavering.

He pulled out a piece of plain looking document from his bag and threw it on the desk that was separating us. It landed on the table with a loud thud and my gaze glanced down to quickly scan it.

"What is it?" The words left my mouth in an instant, a hint of curiosity in my voice.

"It's a contract," he declared proudly with an arrogant look etched onto his face as he leaned back into the chair. "I told you I don't need this lousy job at all. Thanks to you… I finally got the chance to actually kickstart my career as a director with Stella's support. She was the one who helped me get to where I am today," he thanked her without a second thought but his voice was filled with disdain for me.

I forced my lips to curve upwards into a smile.

"You are welcome," I said with an icy voice. "I guess thanks to Stella, you could finally be on set to act as a helper," I commented, the words that left my lips were dripping with sarcasm.

He let out a loud scoff. "What do you know about becoming a director?! I don't need your sarcasm." He spat the words out, each word coated with a thick layer of venom. "You have done nothing to help me unlike Stella did. This is the first step towards making it big."

I arched an eyebrow at him, amusement dancing in my eyes. "Is that so?"

"Just you wait, Aurelia. You will regret ever leaving me and one day you will come back crawling to me when I finally make it big. But by then, it will be too late."

"Are you done yet?" I asked, watching the look of anger cross his face. "Is that all you wanted to tell me?"

Tension continued to thicken in the air between us as we glared at one another. I interrupted him before he could say another word.

"Well, I will wait and see." A smirk tugged at the corners of my lips. "I'm excited for you, I wish you all the best."

Xavier and I have dinner plans for tonight. Just to talk and catch up on all the memories that came rushing back to me all of a sudden. It would be our first time going on a date together as the couple we once were more than three years ago.

I was looking forward to it. It was this weird mixture of nervousness and excitement that was bubbling beneath the surface of my skin. I could already feel the butterflies fluttering in my tummy just at the thought of it.

"Wait here, I'm going to go get the car," he leaned down to murmur beside my ear with a slight smile that was etched onto his face, his deep voice breaking me out of my little reverie. I looked up at him and gave him a light nod, shooting him a smile of my own.

I simply stood there waiting, my eyes scanning the area as I kept a look out for his car. There was a small smile plastered across my face the entire time, until I heard a familiar high-pitched voice reach my ears from a distance away.

"I finally caught you."
