Leo woke up the next morning feeling surprisingly well-rested, considering the chaos of the previous night. His body no longer ached as much from the endless running and hiding, and the memory of being chased by Rin's underling and her furious allies felt like a bad dream, albeit a vivid one. As sunlight filtered into the room through the thin curtains, he stretched and glanced at the clock. It was still early, giving him plenty of time before class.
After the madness of yesterday, today seemed like it might be peaceful, almost normal—something Leo had started to appreciate more in this crazy world. He didn't have any wild expectations. Today, he planned to focus on his usual routine, maybe catch up on some schoolwork, and avoid any unnecessary trouble. As he stood up from his bed, his thoughts briefly flickered to Rin. He wondered if she had fully recovered from her illness, but he quickly pushed the thought aside. No point in dwelling on things beyond his control.
Leo moved to the small washbasin by his bed, splashing water onto his face, then brushed his teeth before pulling on his uniform. The routine was calming in its familiarity, and after everything that had happened, he welcomed the tranquility. Once he was ready, Leo grabbed his bag and headed out the door, determined to make this an uneventful day.
The academy grounds were still quiet as Leo made his way toward the classroom building. The early morning light cast a soft glow over everything, and the crisp morning air felt refreshing. He hadn't realized how much he missed this peaceful feeling after yesterday's antics.
As Leo strolled along the path, a few students nodded to him in passing, but no one approached him. The gossip mill had likely spread rumors of the previous day's events, but it seemed that no one wanted to confront him about it. That was fine with him; the less attention he drew today, the better.
Upon entering the classroom, Leo saw a familiar face. Nomura, his roommate, was already seated at his desk, leaning back with a bored expression on his face. When Nomura noticed Leo, he gave a slight nod.
"Morning," Leo greeted, sliding into the desk next to him.
"Morning. You look... well, considering," Nomura remarked with a hint of amusement in his voice.
Leo chuckled softly. "Yeah, somehow managed to survive the night."
Nomura smirked. "You sure know how to stir things up around here."
"Not exactly my goal," Leo muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. "But I think things have calmed down, at least for now."
The two fell into a comfortable silence as the other students slowly filled the classroom. Leo noticed that Rin and Mary hadn't arrived yet, which was odd considering how punctual they usually were. He wondered if Rin was still feeling unwell, but again, pushed the thought aside.
The bell rang, and class began. The lesson for the day was uneventful, with the instructor going over basic history and literature topics. Leo found himself zoning in and out, his thoughts occasionally drifting back to his system, the strange occurrences, and the various challenges he'd faced since arriving in this world.
By the time lunch rolled around, Leo was eager for a break. He and Nomura made their way to the cafeteria, where the usual bustle of students greeted them. The smell of food wafted through the air, and the noise of chatter filled the room. Leo was thankful that none of the girls from yesterday seemed to be around. No one shouted "pervert" or glared daggers at him. It was almost... normal.
He grabbed a tray of food and sat down with Nomura at a corner table. As they ate, Masuko, the large and boisterous third-year, joined them. He slapped Leo on the back in greeting, nearly causing Leo to choke on his drink.
"Leo! My man!" Masuko's voice boomed. "You survive the hunt yesterday? Heard you were giving the girls a good chase!"
"More like running for my life," Leo muttered, taking a sip of water. "But yeah, I made it out in one piece."
"Good, good!" Masuko grinned. "You gotta stay on your toes around here, especially with those girls. They don't mess around."
Leo nodded, although his mind was still far from relaxed. He knew better than to think he was completely off the hook. But for now, he focused on the food in front of him and tried to enjoy the moment.
The afternoon classes were just as uneventful as the morning ones. Leo tried to stay focused, but his mind kept wandering back to the system and what new opportunities it might present him. There was so much to figure out, and yet, so little time.
As the day came to an end, Leo packed up his things and headed out of the classroom. Nomura was already gone, and Masuko had stayed behind to chat with some other students. Leo decided to take a walk around the academy grounds before heading back to his dorm. The cool evening air was a welcome change after being cooped up inside all day.
Leo's feet led him to the garden area near the girls' dorms, a quiet spot he hadn't visited in a while. It was peaceful here, with only the faint sound of birds chirping in the distance. He sat on a bench, closing his eyes and letting the calm wash over him.
For the first time in a while, Leo felt like he could relax. No traps, no angry girls, no misunderstandings. Just a simple, quiet moment to himself. He knew it wouldn't last forever—trouble seemed to find him whether he sought it or not—but for now, this was enough.
When Leo returned to his dorm, the sun had already begun to set. The soft orange glow filled the sky, casting long shadows across the academy grounds. He climbed the stairs to his room, feeling oddly at peace. Today had been normal—surprisingly normal, and that was exactly what he needed after everything.
As he entered his room and closed the door behind him, Leo let out a deep breath. He glanced at the small mirror by the door, catching a glimpse of himself. He looked tired, but not worn out. Things were starting to feel manageable again.
Leo moved to his bed and sat down, his mind still racing with thoughts of what the future held. There was so much left to explore, so much to uncover. But for now, he was content to take it one day at a time.
Lying back on the bed, he stared at the ceiling, allowing his thoughts to drift. Tomorrow would bring new challenges, no doubt. But today? Today had been a quiet day. And that was enough.
