"Leave me alone!" you big bad wolf. She stood up and ran to the washroom to clean her hands. The warm liquid had stunned her for a long time. She locked the washroom and did not come out for a long time. She was not sure if she should inform the Lei family about this.
They might think it was too risky and or accuse her for the development. Worse! What if they forced her to sleep with Han Zhou to keep the act.
She shuddered at the thought. Washing herself thoroughly, she opened the door but did not walk out. She peeked at the bed first. Han Zhou was already sleeping on the bed. His eyes were closed and his breathing felt even.
Xia Yu sighed. Her eyes closed tightly. "You would be fine, Mother. Soon!" she whispered and left the washroom. Taking out a new pair of gowns from the closet, she left the room. When the door was locked, Han Zhou's eyes opened. He stared at the closed door with his eyes flickering darkly.
He took out his phone and dialed a number. It rang for a long time before someone answered it.
"Fucking man! Do you even sleep at night?" the man cursed from the other side.
"I need you to investigate my wife again." The man went silent at once when he heard Han Zhou.
"What happened? Haven't we investigated her when you decided to tie the knot? You have enough dirt on her to get divorce anytime." This time, the man sounded sober enough to hold a proper conversation. Han Zhou looked at the mess that had been created on the bed.
There was no way that an experienced woman could behave so naively. He would have realized if she had been acting.
"Do it again! As I said, ask someone to follow her around too." there was something he was missing. But he did not know what.
"Alright but do not be disappointed with the result." The man believed that Lei Mei must be cheating on him since he could not satisfy her.
—-----
Han Zhou covered his face with a pillow to get rid of the noises. But the music was blasting his head. He could already feel a hangover. His head was dizzy.
"This woman!" cursing, he stood up. Only to see a cup waiting for him on the side table.
"This will help you with your headache." he read the note aloud and sighed.
"As long as you have not mixed poison in it." he crushed as he picked up the liquid and sniffed it. The smell made him better instantly. He drank the liquid in one gulp and left the room.
He heard the music being played in the background while the girl was stirring a ladle in the pot. The fragrance was wafting all over the dining room.
He salivated without realizing and walked toward the kitchen.
The girl did not notice his presence. She had tied her hair in a ponytail and chosen an oversized shirt and shorts. The smile on her face looked so innocent.
It was the same face he had seen all his life. Yet it felt so different, so refreshing.
He did not realize he was standing like a fool there as he stared at her cooking. She danced and lipsed the song as she cut the strawberries and placed them in melted chocolate one by one.
Then she poured the soup in a bowl. Her hands were already moving to cut the veggies now while rice was cooking in the cooker.
He never knew that Lei Mei could cook so well. Where was the housekeeper?
The girl bent to check the bread in the oven and finally turned to get her mittens when she noticed him.
Her eyes widened and she took a step back instinctively. It was not an act. She was not comfortable around him. She was not playing hard to get!
"I was hungry and the fragrance felt good," he explained, raising his head. She nodded and walked to turn off the music. He regretted standing closer.
Half an hour ago, he hated this music. But now it felt strange that it was off.
"The lunch is ready. I will bring it to the table in a moment." That was his signal to leave the room. But instead, he walked toward her.
Her eyes widened more than saucers and she placed the ladle in front of her, making him pause.
He ignored her and walked past her to pick the bowl of soup.
"I will help." she blinked when he took the bowls and placed them on the table.
Then he picked up the strawberries and placed them in the freezer. "They will taste good when they are frozen." only then did she blink and stopped staring at him.
She stir fried the vegetables and took out the bean pasta stew with tofu. While he picked it up and set the table. The atmosphere would have been harmonious if they had been a real couple. But all Xia Yu could think about, "what if he recognizes that i am not Lei Mei after last night's accident."
"Umm, Han Zhou." she asked as soon as they sat on the table. "I thought that you did not like me. Why are you suddenly being so kind suddenly." the man paused.
He looked at her strangely and felt nervous. Had she been too direct?
"Because we are married now?" he asked back as if confirming. "Would it not be bad for our family too if we kept ignoring each other. Grandfather had specifically warned me at his birthday party to return home and improve my relationship with you. If i didn't do it anymore, he would be angry and i can not take this risk. At his age, it is bad that he is worried about us."
