Chapter 25 - The Cost of Taboo

The full moon shone brightly, illuminating the lands of the Demon Kingdom.

I leaned against the window of my room, staring out at it. From the high vantage point of the Demon King's castle, the entire city spread out below could be seen.

Buildings made of the same marble as the castle stood in neat rows. Apparently, when the castle was carved out of the mountain, the excess stone was repurposed for the city below.

The white walls stood out vividly against the darkness of the night—occasionally flickering with the light of torches and lanterns. I could almost hear the voices of the people living there, carried by the wind.

It's ironic. Even though we're called the "Children of Darkness," demons, night elves, and the like can't live in total darkness. They need at least some moonlight, and if necessary, they'll even light lamps.
