Chapter 1 - Demon Castle Assault Operation

My name is Alexandru.

Suddenly, I need you to hear the story of my death.

That day—the Allied Human Forces launched a surprise attack on the Demon Lord's Castle. With the help of a friendly dragon, we infiltrated demon territory from high altitude. Our strike team, including me and several other heroes alongside the elite warriors of various races, descended upon the Demon Lord's Castle, aiming to take him down.

Taking him down "alone" sounds good in theory, but in reality, it was an assassination. Whether we succeeded or failed, survival wasn't an option. The Allied Forces were so cornered, this was their only hope. The high-altitude flight was so harsh that some froze to death, but it allowed us to descend without facing any interception.

The battle at the Demon Lord's Castle was brutal. Maybe they didn't expect a squad of heroes to drop from the sky, because at first, the demons panicked. But it didn't take long before they mounted a defense. High-ranking demons like the Archdemon, the Vampire Lord—who was as powerful as the progenitors themselves—the Lich King, master of necromancy, and an uncountable number of demon guards came at us.

I don't even want to remember that fight. Many heroes, many of my comrades, fell before we could achieve our goal. Yet, whether it was fortune or misfortune, we made it. We reached the Demon Lord.

The arrogant king of demons.

There, in his throne room, he greeted us... with ease.

Unlike humans, demons value pure strength above all. The Demon Lord is not just a ruler—he's the strongest magical warrior of the demon race. Even considering how exhausted our strike team was, he was... unbelievably strong.

"Well now, that was rather enjoyable, heroes."

With a calm smile, the Demon Lord grabbed my broken body and spoke. His strength was overwhelming. His magical power, enough to nullify any spell, was terrifying. And worst of all, the cursed art he gained from his contract with devils—'Soul Eater.' With every comrade who died, the Demon Lord grew stronger. And because of that, even more of them fell. It was like a nightmarish slaughterhouse.

"You did well, for such frail humans."

"Damn… you…"

"Oh? You can still talk in that state?"

His grip on my neck tightened, and I felt my bones about to snap before I could even suffocate.

"Your soul looks delicious. It shall become my nourishment."

Dark magic flowed through his hand into my neck. I was drained of all strength, physical and magical. Resistance was futile.

"Gah… Aaaaahhh!!!"

Like a balloon bursting, my body exploded. Flesh tore, bones shattered, and I was ripped apart by unimaginable pain. As the Demon Lord's laughter echoed in my ears, my consciousness faded into the void—

I was dead—no doubt about it.

Or so I thought.

But... when I next opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was the face of that loathsome Demon Lord.

"Hmph, a fine face for an infant."

"Ab-bwah!? Abubu-bah!? (Demon Lord!? Why are you here!?)"

I tried to shout, but all that came out were incoherent baby noises. Something was wrong with my body. What the hell was happening? I was being held by someone… large enough to cradle me entirely. No, that wasn't it—I realized I had become... incredibly small. Bluish skin. Chubby little arms.

"Abubu!? (A baby!?)"

...I had been reborn.

And not just as any baby—into the body of a demon.

"A healthy boy," a voice said.

"Hmph, the more heirs, the better," the Demon Lord grunted.

"Your Majesty, would you care to name him?"

"Zilvagias," he declared before promptly leaving the room.

I was dumbstruck.

Are you kidding me? That's how a father reacts to his newborn child?

"Hehehe… hehehehe…"

But the woman holding me didn't seem to mind his coldness. Instead, she let out a chilling laugh.

"At last… at last, I have borne a child... hehehe…"

The next thing I saw was the cold, beautiful face of a demon woman.

Oh no… Don't tell me... This is... This is my mother!?

What filled her gaze wasn't the love of a mother for her child—no, it was obsession, ambition, hatred—a sickening mix of emotions.

"Zilvagias," she cooed in a creepy, cat-like voice.

"You will become the next Demon Lord."

Her smile was chilling.

"You'll push aside those other women's brats... Hehehe... Hahahahaha...!"

And so I Alexandru, the hero—died.

And then, I was reborn.

As Zilvagias, prince of the Demon Kingdom.
