Late at night, a figure clad in a black cloak adorned with red clouds and wearing a spiral mask silently approached the Hokage Building, moving like a shadow beneath the cover of darkness. His presence was so well concealed that even the most skilled sensory-type ninjas would have difficulty detecting him unless they were extremely close.
The figure was none other than Uchiha Fugaku, disguised as Uchiha Obito. As a powerful Kage-level ninja, Fugaku was highly adept at concealing his presence. After incorporating the body of White Zetsu—a being skilled in information gathering and stealth—he had further honed his ability to mask his aura.
Earlier that day, his personal secret room had been broken into. While this enraged him, it also presented an opportunity. He realized that in the chaos of this breach, he could steal the Book of Seals. The Uchiha compound had been violated, and no one would expect him to turn his attention to the Hokage Building on the same night.
At the entrance to the Hokage Building, four ninja were stationed as guards. Among them was a sensory-type ninja, but even they were unable to detect Fugaku's stealthy approach. Only when he came within twenty meters of them did the sensory ninja sense something was amiss.
"Who…?" the ninja began to shout, but before he could alert the others, Fugaku's hands swiftly moved through a series of hand seals.
"Nirvana Temple Technique."
In the darkness, an illusion of white feathers began to fall from the sky. The four ninja, including the sensory-type, felt their heads grow heavy and collapsed, unconscious. The Nirvana Temple Technique was a high-level illusion capable of affecting multiple targets simultaneously. Though it was not overwhelmingly strong, in the hands of someone like Fugaku—whose skill with genjutsu had reached Kage-level—its potency was far greater. Despite the fact that the four ninja were all Special Jonin, they couldn't resist the illusion and were swiftly subdued.
As they fell, Fugaku darted forward, catching each one before they hit the ground and gently placing them down. He then entered the Hokage Building, moving like a phantom.
Having been inside the Hokage Building numerous times, Fugaku knew exactly where to go. The scroll room containing the Book of Seals was located on the top floor. Without hesitation, he made his way up the stairs, his movements silent.
On the second floor, an Anbu ninja was lurking in the shadows, vigilant and on guard. This ninja, a veteran of countless missions, had honed a sharp instinct for danger. Though he heard nothing, a feeling of unease gripped him. Trusting his instincts—ones that had saved him many times before—he glanced down the stairwell.
What he saw startled him. A man with a spiral mask stood at the base of the stairs, and the red glow of a Sharingan shone from behind the mask.
"Sharingan…" the Anbu ninja thought, and immediately tried to avert his gaze. As an Anbu operative, he knew well the danger of making eye contact with a Sharingan user, especially when it came to illusions. However, it was already too late. The moment their eyes met, Fugaku's genjutsu took hold. The Anbu ninja's vision blurred, and his body went limp as he collapsed.
With quick reflexes, Fugaku caught the unconscious ninja and gently lowered him to the floor before continuing his ascent.
He hadn't killed the guards at the Hokage Building's entrance, nor had he killed the Anbu operative. His mission required stealth, not bloodshed. The scent of blood could alert other ninja, especially those with keen senses like Inuzuka clan members, and jeopardize his mission.
As Fugaku climbed higher, he encountered several more Anbu ninja hiding in the shadows. Thanks to the powerful insight of his Sharingan, he detected each one before they even knew he was there, silently neutralizing them with his genjutsu.
The Hokage Building was heavily guarded, and Fugaku realized that without his abilities, even an elite Jonin would have struggled to get this far. By the time he reached the top floor, he had already subdued more than a dozen Anbu guards.
Finally, he arrived outside the scroll room.
The walls surrounding the scroll room were reinforced with barriers, designed to prevent any form of ninjutsu from penetrating. Earth Release or similar techniques would be ineffective. If Fugaku wanted to enter, he had only two options: unlock the door or forcibly break through the barrier, both of which could risk exposing his presence.
Pressing his ear against the wooden door, Fugaku strained his hearing to its limit. Faint breathing could be heard from inside the room.
"There's someone in there," Fugaku noted. It made sense. The scroll room contained highly sensitive information and important scrolls, so it was no surprise that the Third Hokage had stationed Anbu inside to guard it.
Unlocking the door would make noise, no matter how skilled Fugaku was. The ninja inside would hear it and sound the alarm, leaving Fugaku in a dilemma. Without unlocking the door, he couldn't enter, but opening it would expose him.
His gaze shifted to the door. "The door is made of wood…"
A thought occurred to him. After merging with White Zetsu's body, Fugaku had gained the ability to manipulate wood to a small extent. While his control over the Wood Release Kekkei Genkai was limited due to the low concentration of Senju cells, he could still manipulate naturally grown wood to a degree.
He placed his hand on the door, channeling his chakra. Slowly and silently, a hole formed in the door, large enough for him to slip through. The darkness in the room helped conceal the hole from the ninja inside.
Moving quickly, Fugaku slipped through the opening.
"Huh?" the Anbu ninja inside sensed something amiss and was about to shout when Fugaku's Sharingan locked onto him.
"Genjutsu: Sharingan."
The Anbu's body went limp, and Fugaku caught him before he hit the ground, gently lowering him.
With the room secured, Fugaku's eyes scanned his surroundings. The scroll room was spacious, with several bookshelves lining the walls. Each shelf held numerous scrolls of varying sizes. At the center of the room, sitting on a large platform, was an enormous scroll.
Fugaku's eyes fixated on it. This was the Book of Seals, a legendary scroll containing countless forbidden techniques.
Just as Fugaku was about to approach it, a shout echoed through the Hokage Building.
"Someone's sneaking in!"
