The swarm has come close to the defense wall and we start to hear the orders given to the soldiers of the Defense Corp who are posted on top of the wall. I have a sudden sensation of multiple people looking at me and when I turn around, I see everyone in my mother's squad are looking at me and my mother telling them something which I couldn't hear.
HORN
When are close to 1 km from the wall, a loud horn sound is heard from the center of the wall where the Lieutenant and Jack are currently standing. Immediately about a 1000 soldiers of the Defense Corp jumps down the 100 meter wall using skills and rush towards the swarm with war cries, both the archers and close combatants alike.
I am not familiar with most of the skills, but I can see a few skills which I wanted to learn before I got the Ice element. One of them is the 'Air Stride' skill which allows the person using it to run on the air forming steps that will disappear in seconds and needs to be used before that.
None of the volunteers joined them as we were told to stay on top of the wall and fight the animals that manages to get past the front line and climb the wall. The wall is thick and strong enough to even take a direct damage from a High-A grade animal.
Only now I notice something peculiar about this swarm. There are no birds in the swarm, nothing is flying. A swarm usually have many animals gathered by a powerful animal to attack a human settlement, the same goes to the horde and tide which will include birds too.
But, I haven't seen a single bird in this swarm. I look at Sylas who has better eyesight as is an archer and ask "Don't you see any birds in the swarm?" To which he replies "No, so far only animals."
This gives me goosebumps, which makes me believe this is not a swarm, but a 'Dungeon outbreak'. I am not sure about it, yet. But I am 70% sure this is not a normal swarm we face once or twice a year. I have also notice a few more clues for my guess.
There are no other Lieutenants in the defense wall now except for the one who is in-charge and there are no battalions of Defense Corp except for the squads working as security in the town.
With all this in mind I start walking towards the place where the Lieutenant and Jack are. My sister tries to stop me by coming in front, but my mother pulls her aside shaking her head. Ignoring them, I keep walking to the center of the defense wall.
"What do you want kid?" The Lieutenant asks me when she sees me coming towards them and Jack reprimands her saying "Do not use that tone towards my trainees girl."
I should have bit my tongue in shock if it is normal times, but now, I am already angry and have lot of things running inside my head to be surprised to hear my trainer calling a Defense Corp Lieutenant a girl.
He looks at me and says "Can we talk about this later Alex?" To which I shake my head asking "We are facing a dungeon outbreak, aren't we?" To which he smiles and says "Told you he is brilliant Jess." and the Lieutenant snorts for it.
I look at Jack with clear confusion as I didn't know what they were talking about be, but he looks at me and says "You are right kid, we are facing a grade F dungeon outbreak which you and your team can handle with ease." He says with a clear pride in his voice, that is the type of training he has given us till now.
He is right in a way. No one in my team is a weakling. Anyone can fight an animal that has power equal to High-F grade and kill it, but the monsters from the dungeon are different as we don't know anything about them.
Looking at my concerned face Jack says "Relax kid, you are trained to be superior to all the animals in the same grade. It will be easy for you to bulldoze them, just remember your training."
"An outbreak?" I ask in a surprise as an outbreak can never happen in a dungeon. Once a dungeon appears near a town or a city, the companies which are located there will be informed and they will send in their 'Recruited Soldiers' to clear them. The dungeons should be cleared within 12 days, before it disappears.
"Which company couldn't clear an F grade dungeon 12 days?" I ask unable to control my anger. "We will talk about it later Alex. Now Go, be with your Team." He says with the the 1st few words like an order to which I nod. But, I still have 1 question which I ask with hesitation "Ca.. Can I tell this to the team?" to which he nods.
I look at him for a second and leave the center of the wall to meet with my team to give them an update on what's happening and what we are up against. When I look at them from a few meters away, I couldn't control my mind but feel proud of them standing against a swarm, 'as per their understanding' with no fear on their face.
"Guys, huddle around." I tell them and recognizing my voice, they immediately come close to me forming a small circle with me at the center. "What did you hear from them?" Sylas asks unable to hold his curiosity at bay to which I just smile.
"I bring a good and bad news people. This is only shared to us and no one else at this time." I tell them and they look at me with concern. "What we are up against is not a swarm, but a dungeon outbreak." I tell them and hear a couple of gasps coming from them.
"Okay, what's the good news then?" asks Mara who is the first to regain her composure to which I reply "It is just a grade F dungeon."
