Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Three Days and Three More Days, When Can I Get Out?

At the Konohagakure hospital, three days had passed since the Konohagakure collapse plan, and three major events had occurred during these three days. The first was the death of the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen.

To stop his student Orochimaru from destroying Konohagakure, the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, used the Uzumaki clan's forbidden technique 'Reaper Death Seal'. Although he didn't kill Orochimaru, he did take away Orochimaru's ability to continue causing trouble.

Sarutobi Hiruzen's funeral was held during these three days. It was said that all the civilians and nobles of Konohagakure attended the funeral. The civilians cried very sadly, and the major clans also cried very sadly. It was said that the Hyuga clan even held a small farewell party for Hokage-sama within their clan, and everyone got drunk.

The second major event was that the sage Jiraiya, also a student of the Third Hokage, took over as acting Hokage. Because of his reputation and strength, many people in Konohagakure wanted him to become the real Hokage, but he refused.

It was said that he had already prepared during these three days to call back the last of the three legendary ninjas, Tsunade, to serve as the Fifth Hokage.

In short, everyone was happy about this news except for some people hiding under big trees.

The third major event was that the Jinchuriki Uzumaki Naruto, the 'demon fox' hated by everyone, single-handedly stopped the biggest weapon of Sunagakure Village, the One-Tailed Shukaku, and severely injured and captured it when Konohagakure was empty and no one could stop the tailed beast.

This news was personally announced by the legendary copy ninja Hatake Kakashi, a student of the Fourth Hokage. Acting Hokage Jiraiya-sama rewarded Uzumaki Naruto for his efforts by allowing him to learn ninjutsu from the Book of Seals after he recovered.

Originally, many people were unhappy with this order, such as some powerful old guys and some old guys who liked to stay under trees. These people were very opposed, but unfortunately, they couldn't beat Jiraiya, and all the Jonin except for the Root had already agreed.

They had no choice.

When these three major events happened, Kakashi was staying in the hospital. Jiraiya would occasionally come to see him, but most of the time he was dealing with Hokage's affairs.

It was already three days later.

Jiraiya came to Naruto's ward, leaned against the door, and looked at the three people in the ward without speaking for a while.

Kakashi sat by the window, one eye...

One eye covered by his headband, the other looked out the window at the sky, watching birds fly by and clouds drift.

Sasuke sat by Naruto's hospital bed, resting his chin on his hands, staring at Naruto with a look of conflict and struggle in his eyes.

Sakura sat on the other side of the bed, slowly peeling an apple, as if waiting for something.

Jiraiya sighed softly, looking at Naruto, "His whole body is badly burned, his internal pathways and bones almost completely destroyed. I can't imagine how a kid his age managed to hold on."

They seemed to come back to their senses, with Sakura standing up first, "Jiraiya-sama..."

"No need." Jiraiya waved to stop her from bowing, stepping into the room to look at Naruto, "They say Naruto can never be a ninja again."

"Impossible!" Sasuke slammed his hands on the bed, gritting his teeth as he looked at Naruto, "He can't stand not being a ninja. He won't give up, he won't!"

Compared to others, Sasuke was closest to Naruto. He knew the fear of facing Shukaku better than anyone, and standing by Naruto's side, watching him fight with all his might, he felt more frustrated than anyone.

To face Shukaku head-on, to grit his teeth and keep going even when close to death, Naruto would never give up.

Sasuke knew this better than anyone.

Kakashi took a deep breath and turned his head. He didn't stop Sasuke's rude tone but looked at Jiraiya, "Jiraiya-sama, have you found Tsunade-sama?"

Unlike Sasuke's blind confidence, Kakashi was more rational. Like Lee, he believed Tsunade-sama could save Naruto.

"I found her." Jiraiya stepped past the bed to Kakashi, looking serious, "I'll be leaving to find Tsunade. I need you to handle Hokage's duties for now. I've already informed Asuma."

Kakashi lowered his head, thinking for a moment, then nodded lightly, "Yes."

...

"Try harder, you loser! Didn't you eat?" Kurama yelled at Naruto, who was refining chakra outside.

"I didn't eat!" Naruto yelled back at Kurama, "I said I could wake up, but it's been three days, three days! I'm almost learning the Tailed Beast Bomb! When can I wake up?"

"Uh..." Kurama awkwardly pulled back his head, "We're waiting for Jiraiya."

Naruto could have woken up long ago. His body wasn't like those weak ninjas. In the original story, he woke up in less than a day after using four tails of chakra. Now, even though he's weaker, his Uzumaki body isn't a joke.

Basically, Naruto should have woken up a day ago.

But Kurama didn't let him. He made Naruto stay in the sealed space to learn, using a bit of thin chakra to practice the Tailed Beast Bomb, which annoyed Naruto. But training was Naruto's favorite thing, so he started training willingly.

Until now.

So, yes, his body was badly hurt, but what did that have to do with Kurama? Lending him some chakra wouldn't hurt Naruto's body and would let him learn the Tailed Beast Bomb, a win-win.

Unfortunately, Naruto didn't appreciate it.

Naruto sat down on the water with a pout, crossing his arms. "You said you'd let me get used to your chakra and learn the Tailed Beast Bomb. I'm almost there, but you still won't let me wake up. Sakura-chan must be really worried about me."

"Heh." Kurama let out an awkward laugh. Sakura was indeed very worried about him, as were Sasuke and Kakashi, Jiraiya, Asuma, Kurenai, Shikamaru, and others. Naruto's body was unconscious in the sealed space, so he couldn't see the outside world, but Kurama could sense it.

So...

"Alright, it's about time." Kurama looked at his wrist. "It's been three days. Jiraiya just said he's going to find Tsunade. If you wake up now, the timing is perfect."

The reason Kurama kept Naruto unconscious for so long was to find Tsunade. Tsunade could speed up Naruto's recovery, and Kurama could take care of some things that required Naruto to leave Konoha. Otherwise, if caught, it would be over.
