Chapter 7 - Contract (1)

The next day, it was the usual routine. Waking up having breakfast and heading to the town.

But as I was about to head out I remembered Lily's word.

Am I in trouble? Should I spend my time someplace else avoiding Lily for the entire day.

But would Lily really harm me. She might have been joking. Even grandma said how kind she really is.

But then I remembered her herculean strength and how she lifted me up in the air like I was an ant.

Should I just spend the rest of the day inside the house. I was seriously considering doing that.

And yet a part of my brain felt like there was no reason for me to so much afraid of her. I hadn't committed any serious crime and it was just a small misunderstanding, surely she wouldn't harm me.

Reassuring myself I finally headed towards the guild.

Arriving at the guild I saw Lily seated at her desk.

Without even speaking a word to me she headed inside the training room.

Was it a mistake on my end to come here. A premonition was welling up inside me that I wouldn't be able to walk home on my own feet.

Inside the room a bunch of plants were kept with a book beside each one of the plant.

"Today you are supposed to make changes in the health of all these plants. You can use the book kept besides the plant to look up its diseases, what its optimal health condition is or how it looks like when inflicted by certain diseases and how to cure it as well."

"You can't leave this training hall until you are done with all the plant or unless I say so."

After that she started to paint her nails like what happening here was none of her concern.

Looking around the room there were 15 different types of plant present.

How was I supposed to manipulate their health like it was something casual or seemingly like a walk in the park.

How could anyone be so cruel. The premonition that I felt before heading to this room wasn't wrong.

I went to the first plant and directly picked up the book. I didn't want to waste time the way I did yesterday to brute force my way into manipulating the plants health.

Reading about the plant from the book it was a plant that was able to produce fruit which was similar in appearance to tomatoes only difference was that the colour of the fruit was somewhat similar to how sun was depicted in the children's book.

Even the name of the plant was Sunmato. But the plant in front of me didn't have a fruit. So today I was supposed to choose some another part of the plant.

Looking at the book I was reading as to what kind of diseases affect Sunmato. In the book most of the diseases that affect the plant were affecting the leaf of the plant due to some bacterial infection or fungal infection.

It was clear to me that the leaf of the plant was the weak spot or rather the leaf was more prone to infection followed by the fruit.

But how was I supposed to induce the infection. Looking in the book there was a disease that affected the plant due to mineral deficiency. I could try to induce the mineral deficiency by making the leaves transfer or somehow utilise that mineral.

If I could pull it off I would have accomplished one of the objectives for today.

With that I started to start what I had done yesterday. I tried to transfer my thoughts to the plant.

I tried by making the leaf transfer all of its nutrients to other plants of the plant with the same intensity as yesterday.

A few minutes passed by but I wasn't able to feel the connection that I had felt yesterday.

What was I doing wrong. I was trying to manipulate its health but the connection wasn't there. Was I wrong in my assumption that I would be able to induce disease by mineral deficiency.

Do I have to make it through bacterial or fungal infection. But how do I induce it.

From my study I remembered that pathogens develop when there is a lack of white blood cells in our body. If I could somehow reduce the plant's white blood cells or their equivalent I would be able to produce results.

With that I scourged up the entire book to look whether plants have white blood cells or another defence fighting mechanism.

After a thorough look at the book I was able to find a small part describing how the plant combats the bacteria trying to enter its system.

What the plant have is a inbuilt disease fighting system which marks the bacteria as they try to enter the plants system and so once they enter the system the mark on them resonates with certain toxic substances present in the plants system and as such killing of those bacterias.

So I had to somehow induce bacterial growth in the tissues of the plant otherwise there was non way for me to proceed ahead.

With that I started to establish connection with the plant like yesterday while making trying to induce bacterial growth.

Believing that this approach would work I made efforts into making that result a possibility.

The bacteria that I was trying to grow affects the leaf by making them curl before making them dead eventually.

After a few minutes I was still not able to feel any connection. Was this approach not going to work as well.

Just when I thought about giving up I was able to feel a connection with the plant.

So my thought process was correct. But the connection felt like it was about to cut off. I immediately increased the intensity of my efforts and the connection which felt like a string about to cut off was re-established.

This time I wasn't immediately able to see any results like yesterday. But I knew that I was on the right track and so I didn't stop.

A few minutes had passed by and I was finally able to see some kind of white spots appearing on the leaf.

I was successful in my endeavour and as much leaving the plant I headed towards the next one.

This time it was an imitation of blue berry as the berries were clearly visible on the plant. Since it was a fruit I employed yesterday's approach and the results were visible and so I was able to smoothly proceed to the next plant.

After that it was a hellish process of trial and error while trying to figure out what exactly to do to induce the growth of the bacterias. I was focused on the bacterial growth as it was the method that was giving results in the least time as compared to other ones.

When I was trying to induce bacterial growth in the 11th plant I was able to feel a new thing. It was like the image of what was transpiring inside the plant was getting projected inside my head.

But the image vanished as soon as it appeared. But it didn't matter to me.

What I was able to see was like a breakthrough for me. I was able to see what exactly was happening inside the plant when I tried to manipulate its health.

The bacterial cells were appearing out of nowhere inside the plant and multiplying at a rapid pace.

What would happen if I was somehow able to do it on a plant wide scale instead of a lead wide scale.

Wouldn't I be easily able to make the plant dead in a few hours.

This momentary gap that drew me out of my concentrated state made me notice how tired I was.

My entire body was drenched in sweat while my mind was growing hazy. I felt like I would collapse at any moment.

My head was swinging sideways and just when I felt like I was about to collapse Lily who had kept quite this whole time got up from her chair and supported me before I collapsed.

"It was quite a good performance you displayed today. Just take a look at the first plant and your will be able to see what you managed to do today."

I took a look at the first plant of Sunmato and the leaf upon which I had managed to infect the bacterial growth had turned white whereas white sots were also visible on other leaves of the plant.

It felt like it would die after few days if nothing was done.

But I was too exhausted to care about the plant.

"Just let me sleep." I said to Lily before I finally collapsed due to exhaustion.

"What kind of scary talent is he. It is a pity that he wasn't able to feel that breakthrough clearly and for a longer duration." Lily murmured in a low voice after I collapsed.
