After hours of circling the neighborhood and taking down zombies, they still hadn't found the sinkhole they were looking for. Ralf had called Matthew to check in, and the man reported that the number of zombies in the area was far greater than anticipated—and much stronger. For now, Matthew said he needed to rest.
Ralf led Sorn into one of the larger abandoned houses. The glass windows were shattered, clearly from the impact of zombie attacks. Judging by the sturdy construction and elegant designs of the homes, Sorn assumed this neighborhood had once been inhabited by upper-middle-class families.
As they stepped inside, dust and cobwebs dominated the interior. A large family photo hung on the wall, depicting a smiling father, mother, and their children—a typical happy family. For a fleeting moment, Sorn wondered if they were still alive, though he wasn't curious enough to dwell on it.
"It looks like the water still works," Ralf called out from a small bathroom.
