Chapter 27 - Douglas's Ranking

I finally got to my room and immediately collapsed onto my bed.

This day tired me out too much.

But I needed to do one last thing, look what my ranking was.

Just as I was about to open my phone to look at what my ranking was...

Ding Dong

My door bell rang.

I opened the door to see the two guys that made my stir up for this entire day.

Cain and Sam were standing infront of my door with grins I would like to wipe the floor with.

"How did you guys learn my room number?" I asked.

"We just asked the receptionist lady. It was actually pretty easy to-"

I cut off Cain by closing the door.

Immediately, rapid knocks could be heard and I opened my door again.

"Just tell me why you guys came here."

Cain looked offended but was still smiling, and Sam had puppy eyes.

"Can you let us enter your room first? It is rude to not invite a guest inside you know."

Cain asked.

I sighed and let them in.

I sat on the chair for my working desk while both Cain and Sam sat on the edge of my bed.

"Well, explain yourselves."

Sam looked at me then spoke,

"We just wanted to learn your rank. You know ours but we don't know yours. Isn't that unfair?"

I facepalmed.

"Literally anybody knows both of your ranks since you are the first ranked and you are the second ranked." I explained, pointing at them.

"That's true... but can't you just tell us your rank?" Cain added.

"Fine, I was just about to look at it anyways."

I opened my phone once again and started to look at the leaderboard.

I went down the list just before 256th place because that was the highest I could place in unless I was a case like Sam, which I highly doubted.

"Damn, dude. Hopefully you are in Class Players like us. It wouldn't be fun otherwise." Cain said while licking his lips.

I forgot this dude was a battle maniac who acted a little gay with those he liked.

Well, I hoped I would be in Class Players too so I didn't say anything.

I slid further down and right before hitting the 300 mark...

299th place.

I was in 299th place.

I barely made it to Class Players.

I was relieved I actually made it and both Sam and Cain seemed happy too.

Ugh-

I felt something cold for some reason but it was just for a moment, so I decided to ignore it.

"299th place, huh? You made it to Class Players by the skin of your teeth. Congrats, now you get to spar with us every day." Cain said, leaning forward with a grin.

Sam chuckled nervously. "Yeah, uh... good luck with that. Cain doesn't exactly take it easy on people. I experienced it firsthand haha. But hey, you made it. That's what matters, right?"

I leaned back in my chair, trying to process the fact that I'd actually made it.

Barely.

"Yeah, That I did. Though I can't help but feel like I've just signed up for hell."

"You have, but that's the fun part." Cain said with a grin.

I shook my head, ignoring his comment, and decided to focus on the bigger picture.

Being in Class Players meant I'd have access to better resources, stronger opponents, and more opportunities to grow. It also meant I would be in the same class as Cain, Sam and the others. It was an advantage, but also a headache.

Cain laughed. "Oh, come on. Don't kick us out yet. We should celebrate. You're in Class Players! This is a big deal."

"I agree, It's not every day you make it into the top class, especially with how competitive this year was." Sam said, though his tone was more subdued.

Here I was, having the first and second ranked participants of the tournament convincing me to celebrate becuase I placed 299th.

How can I get more pathetic than this?

I sighed, rubbing my temples. "I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I really just want to lie down and not think about anything for a while."

Cain stood up, stretching his arms above his head.

"Alright, alright. We'll leave you alone... for now. But don't get too comfortable. You are in Class Player, the top of the school, after all."

Sam nodded and followed Cain to the door.

"Ohhh, look at our bigshots acting as if they are in a higher position than me when in fact, they are in the same position as me."

"What should I say? Thank you for the advice, senior?" I replied sarcastically

Sam let out a chuckle and Cain straight up laughed.

"Heh... sorry for treating you as if we were better than you. A little fame and we became like this, now I understand why people say power gets to your head." Cain said.

Sam apologised too. "Yeah, we shouldn't have acted like we were superior to you. Sorry."

"No problem, guys. It isn't that serious anyway."

Cain nodded at me and added before leaving. "Get some rest. You'll need it."

Sam too nodded at me and left the room, closing the door behind like the thoughtful guy he is.

As soon as they left, I locked the door behind them and collapsed onto my bed.

299th place, the second lowest place after the 300th place.

I had barely managed to get by, but I'd made it.

Still, something felt off. That cold sensation earlier, it was quick, fleeting, but... unsettling.

I shook the thought away. I was too tired to deal with strange feelings or overthinking.

Tomorrow would be a new day, just as Cain said.

For better or worse, I was in Class Players now. There was no turning back.

I looked towards the ceiling before closing my eyes and going to the land of the dreams, not that ready, but still willing to be in Class Players.
