Chereads / The Dream of a Reader / Chapter 28 - Introduction

Chapter 28 - Introduction

It was around 4 am, the usual time I woke up ever since I transmigrated into this world.

I slowly got out from my bed, and opened my window to let fresh air in.

Were the stars always this bright?

I shook my head at this useless thought. I guess sleeping did made me relax a little after all the tournament stuff.

Still, I can't let my guard down no matter how much I want to since I dont know what this world might throw at me next.

I did my usual morning routine, taking care of my hygiene, doing some light training for a few hours and got ready for school.

On the way to my first class, Introduction to General Combat, I saw Rufus Janet across the hall.

He did not seem pleased to see me, and galred at me.

"Peh, it isn't like I am so fond of him." I muttered to myself.

Not caring about the encounter, I made my way towards the class.

When I came into the classroom, it was already bustling with students.

Sam and Cain were of course seated near the front like the top students they were.

Cain turned around, and I tried to hide my face but it was too late.

"Yo, Mr. Number 299. Come over here." He whistled.

I originally planned to sit at the back of the class, but it seemed like that wasn't possible anymore.

I rolled my eyes, and with a sigh, I went towards their table.

Also, to top off my already bad luck, the seats were for 3 people, and they left me the middle seat.

"Should've come here earlier, sucker." Cain teased me with his annoying grin, but I paid no heed to it, and sat down.

"So, how'd you sleep?" Cain asked me.

"It was fine, until you showed up at my dream." I replied.

Sam chuckled. "Better get used to him. Our number one starboy is basically unavoidable now."

"You two are just jealous I am stronger, smarter and better looking than both of you." Cain said.

"Heh, as if." I said before the instructor came through the door, silencing the classroom.

"Hi guys, I am General Combat, nice to meet you all. The lesson is over now that you've been introduced to me."

There was no noise in the room. It seemed like nobody appreciated his joke. Poor old man.

"Ehem, sorry for the cheesy joke. Alright, everyone, welcome to Introduction to General Combat. I'm Instructor Gale, your Class Supervisor, and my job is to make sure you survive your time here in Class Players, or at least learn enough not to embarrass yourselves at the monthly exams."

His old eyes scanned the room, and for a moment he locked eyes with me.

I must've imagined it.

"This class isn't about anything fancy or stuff like that. It is about learning the basics to combat. If everything else fails, the things you learn in this class will be your go to."

He stopped for a moment, letting us take it in and process her words.

"There will be 3 main subjects of this lesson; Hand to Hand Combat Basics, Magic Combat Basics, and Combat Basics which is both Magic and Hand to Hand combined."

"Good. Now, let's begin."

Instructor Gale wasted no time going into the lesson.

He took his stance, and started speaking.

"First things first, Hand to Hand Combat. This will be the first subject of the three we will be talking about. The next lesson will be about Magic Combat, and the third will be about Combat Basics. Then we will see what we will do, I guess."

"It doesn't matter if you can summon fireballs or even mountains when somebody gets close to you, and you can't throw a proper punch. So, what should you do in this situation?"

"A)Whine like a b*tch B)Run away C)Beg the guy to spare you D)Learn to be a proper man from this lesson."

He paused for a second before adding,

"Sorry, I forgot there were ladies among us. For the last question, think of it as a proper fighter instead."

The class was silent. No one dared to raise their hands except him.

"You, with the weird yellow eyes." Instructor gale pointed at the guy sitting next to me.

"E)Beat the sh*t out of them." Cain replied confidently.

Instructor Gale couldn't hold back his laughter.

"Look at this guy, heh. I guess that answer is right too, only if you have the power necessary to do that though." He said while smirking as if enjoying this exhange.

Cain grinned, clearly unbothered by the instructor's response implying he wasn't strong enough.

Or perhaps he were just too thick skinned to understand that.

I hope it isn't the latter for his sake.

"Alright, everyone, enough joking around. Up on your feet. Let's see how you all stand."

Everybody complied and got up. Gale walked among us, evaluating each student's stance.

"Feet shoulder width apart, hands up to guard your face. Keep your weight balanced between your feet. You're not a tree, so don't root yourself in place. Be ready to move." He commended as he went around.

I adjusted my position awkwardly, trying to match his instructions. Gale's sharp eyes caught me almost immediately.

"You're leaning too far forward. Unless you want to kiss the floor, straighten up."

I sighed, correcting my stance. "Yes, sir."

Gale moved on, stopping in front of Cain and Sam. "Well, look at you two. Number one and number two, huh? Show me what you've got."

They looked at each other before doing as they were told so.

"Good. You two actually look like you know what you're doing. Keep it up. Especially you, Stark." He nodded approvingly.

Cain raised an eyebrow, his smirk widening. "I'd love to see what you think I can improve on, old man."

Was this guy serious? He was straight up inviting the teacher for a spar on the first class.

Gale looked amused. "Careful, Stark. I might just take you up on that challenge one day."

"Alright, It is time to pair up and go to the training room."

"And before any of you say anything. No, you can't choose your partners. I will assign them."

He began matching people, and my partner was...
