Chapter 8 - Back at Bless

"Victor Fall"

Thrimphum's actual name was never known by anyone until this moment so once he heard it he was shocked and that momentary diversion of his attention resulted in his heart being pierced just like Eden.

The last thing he heard was "You've done excellent Victor fall" in his own voice.

As Thrimphum took his last breath he understood Eden had never once gone all out and simply toyed with him.

He fell dead on the ground before standing up once again, but this time he was not the same person.

I was finally back at my dorm after the intense training I had for a week.

'Thrimphum was a really nice guy and he looked after me a lot on this past week so the next time I see him I'll make sure to repay him.' I thought to myself before going down to eat lunch.

While we were not informed what our rankings in the Entrance Exams were, we were informed which class we would temporarily be in.

I had gotten inside Class Players meaning I had one of the best Entrance Exam scores and I placed in the top 300.

"Whew, Thankfully I wasn't late for lunch." I said while wiping a imaginary sweat.

I took my lunch and sat at an empty table since I didn't know anyone and I liked being alone.

"Yeah and then I altered the mana output of the spell and got a better result"

There was a conversation going on in the seat nearby. The girl talking was Lena Hemelmaan, she was the female lead and after a series of unnecessary teenage drama she ended up being lovers with Sauboro.

She was talking with her subordinate Olivia Floyd about her progress on 'Air Steps' a high level wind affinity spell. This fact alone showed how high her magical prowess was and how much of a genius she was even if she was weaker than Sauboro.

Well my version of flying was more stable at the moment compared to hers but in the hands of someone who mastered it 'Air Steps' is better in every aspect as its one of the hardest spells to master for a wind mage. There is also the fact that while she uses it as a spell I use it as a Sub-talent.

'Well, it seems the rest of our main cast will be here in the upcoming week'

"Wha-" I exclaimed shocked by the bad taste of my soup but when I looked at it I understood why. I had put a lot of salt while thinking.

I quickly set my spoon down, feeling down about the overly salty soup. "How great" I muttered, contemplating on whether I should go and get a new soup or just suffer through it.

*Cough* I threw up the soup and my head started spinning for some reason until I realized it wasn't the soup that I coughed out but my blood. I saw a few students and Lena's surprised expression but by the time she stood up I was already knocked out.

***

I opened my eyes slowly, my head pounding as though I was hit by a truck. The air around me felt... different. It was warm and serene opposed to the cold and blank feeling of the cafeteria.

Where was I?

The ceiling above me was a shade of white giving comforting feelings mixed with light blue, twisted patterns.

"Those look like the veins on a humans body without its usual color."

"Hmm, how observant of you Douglas Preto." A female that was right next to my ear voiced out.

The voice startled me and I instinctively flinched. I turned my head towards the voice and found a short, elderly woman dressed in full white nurse clothes staring towards me.

"Who are you and how did you sneak up this close without even making a sound?" I asked warily towards this unknown lady.

"Oh-ho, younglings these days dont even know their elders huh? Well, no worries I am Esme, the academy's and your nurse for today, young man."

"Uhh, I am sorry Miss Esme but why am I here? Last thing I remember, I was in the cafeteria eating my meal."

Although I had understood the gist of the situation I still wanted to learn the details.

"Well, from what those girls told me you suddenly started coughing blood in the cafeteria and fainted."

So it was Lena and Olivia that brought me into the nursery and from the looks of it I suddenly fainted.

"If I may ask Miss Esme, why exactly did I faint and how long has it been since I fainted?"

Esme's expression looked shaken as if she couldn't convey what she wanted to say through words.

"Kid."

She called out to me and put a hand on my shoulder.

"I am truly sorry for your loss."

I couldn't understand the meaning behind her words. What was she sorry for? What was my loss? Did I get crippled or something?

"What are you talking about, Miss Esme?"

"So you don't know huh?" She sighed.

"Let me explain what happened to you and why it happened."

"There was... some foreign mana within your body that most likely came from another powerful person. Do you know who this person might be?" She questioned.

The only person I could think of was Thrimphum.

"I do have someone that might be the reason for that external mana. Why did you ask?"

She looked at me with a sad gaze and continued.

"This person most likely left their mana within you to effect your mana and help strengthen it but..."

"But?"

"That mana got corrupted which led to your mana around that worsening and getting forcefully ejected from your body."

"There is 2 ways somebody's mana can get corrupted either they voluntarily let those specific mana particles corrupt by not letting it into the mana cycle and keeping it within your body or their soul gets corrupted and they become a dark mage."

What? That can't be true, Thrimphum wasn't a dark mage and I doubt he'd be willing to become one even if he was a rogue.

"Someone must've forced him to become a dark mage. That is possible, right?"

I felt as if something was stuck in my throat until I heard Esme's answer.

"It is most likely possible because if there was no resistance in his mana and he willingly became a dark mage then that would've spelt immediate doom for you but because there was resistance it allowed your body to eject the mana before it corrupted you whole too."

I sighed with relief

"So, is it possible to-"

"Save him? Kid, don't even try. Even the strongest mage cant turn a dark mage back into a human. They are way beyond the point of return."

"Give up, kid. He is not the same person you know anymore."
