Amelia pushed the door open, barely hiding the exasperation that had been bubbling in her chest since she walked into the house and found Sally alone. The sight of her nanny sitting nervously on the couch wasn't exactly the homecoming she was expecting.
"What?" she asked, her voice a little sharper than intended. "You said Sean went to his cousin's house?"
Sally flinched slightly, wringing her hands together like a guilty kid caught sneaking cookies. "Lou and her nanny confirmed they're with the Wang family," she replied, her face scrunched up in apology. "I thought it was fine. The teacher and Sean both said they knew Lou. I didn't think anything of it—just figured it was okay for him to spend the afternoon there. I was planning to pick him up later like he wanted."
