As Lou visited Maddie that weekend, she looked her cousin up and down with a thoughtful expression. "You look even more beautiful when you're slim," she remarked casually. "Are you on a diet?"
Maddie's face stayed calm as she responded, "I'm like this because of my sickness. So… does that mean I only look pretty when I'm ill?"
Lou shrugged. "You could stick to the diet even after you get better."
Before Maddie could respond, Sean stepped in, visibly annoyed. "Hey, don't say things like that to Maddie," he said firmly. "She can decide for herself how she wants to look."
