The private lounge was dark and secluded, just as I'd arranged. Dim lighting softened the edges of the room, and the low hum of jazz music hummed in the background, giving it a strange, intimate atmosphere that didn't quite match the purpose of this meeting. I leaned back in the plush armchair, one leg crossed over the other, feigning a calm confidence I didn't entirely feel. Jackson had been… a wildcard in this plan. He had the potential to be both my greatest asset and my biggest liability. I had stopped at nothing to fix a meeting with him. He was the missing piece to my puzzle. I needed him if I wanted a chance to get my man and father of child back.
Jake was mine and until Jackson gets back Laura, I might not get the chance to have him.
