I sat on the edge of my bed, phone still in hand after hanging up with Laura. Her voice still lingered in my mind. Her voice - calm yet guarded - had a way of piercing through me, leaving me conflicted. I placed my phone back on the bed and leaned back till I was lying on the bed, staring at the celling. She wanted to meet. That was all I had been waiting for, yet I couldn't go now.
My heart was heavy, torn between two instincts. One part of me, the part that still burned with love for her, screamed to forget the trip, drive over to her house, and beg her to talk things through now. The other, more logical side, told me I couldn't do that yet.
I clenched my fists, battling the urge to call her back and say, "Screw Chloe. Forget the weekend. Forget everything. I'm coming over right now."
But I couldn't. Not yet.
