Laura
The beeping of machines filled the hospital room, a constant reminder of the chaos I'd woken up into. I sat up slowly, my head pounding. Arlene was perched on the edge of my bed, her eyes scanning her phone while her mom adjusted the blanket around me. They'd barely left my side since the incident.
"Laura, are you feeling okay?" Arlene asked, noticing I was awake.
I nodded weakly. "As okay as I can be."
A knock on the door interrupted us, and the doctor stepped in, clipboard in hand. His calm expression was a stark contrast to the panic I felt about everything.
"Good to see you awake, Ms. Laura," he said with a polite smile. "Before we discuss discharging you, I need to ask a few questions." he let out while I nodded, dreading this moment.
"How are you feeling now? Any dizziness or chest pains?" he asked, glancing between me and the monitor beside the bed.
"No, just... tired," I admitted.
