Chapter 17 - rewards

After celebrating all day, our group was utterly exhausted.

Dakota: "Damn, I am really tired."

Henry: "Yeah, me too. We partied pretty hard."

Dakota: "Oh, and tomorrow we should be getting our reward for killing the Djinn."

Ava: "Yeah, I can't wait for tomorrow."

So, we all headed to our respective homes and fell asleep as soon as we hit the beds.

The morning came, and it was time for me to wake up. I got ready quickly and left for the academy. Upon my arrival, I found the group waiting for me.

Dakota: "Hey, guys. Sorry I'm late."

Henry: "Don't worry about that. Now, let's go in."

We entered the academy, but as soon as we did, a group of people rushed up to us, asking countless questions.

Random Student: "Hey, did you guys really defeat a mid-ranked Djinn?"

Dakota: "Umm, yeah."

Suddenly, everyone around us began buzzing with excitement. The news of us defeating a mid-ranked Djinn had spread like wildfire.

Random Student: "I can't believe I'm witnessing history being made right now!"

Random Student: "And did you really form a group together?"

Dakota: "Yes, we did."

Random Student: "Oh my god, so it's true! Hey, post this on social media right now!"

Random Student: "Can you tell us how you defeated the Djinn?"

Lucas: "Sorry, but we just arrived. Can you let us through, and we'll answer your questions later?"

With that, the crowd fell silent, parting ways and allowing us to walk through.

Dakota: "Wow, Lucas, you really made them stop. How did you do that?"

Lucas: "I actually have no idea. I wasn't expecting them to listen."

Dakota: "Ha, I see."

And in that moment, I couldn't help but think that Lucas reminded me of someone from my past life, a childhood friend.

We then proceeded to the principal's office, as requested. We arrived and entered the office.

Edward: "Hello, students. I'm Edward Pierce, the principal of this academy. I'm here to give you the rewards for killing the Djinn."

Dakota: "All right! Now this is what I'm talking about!"

Edward: "Okay, students, here are all the rewards. Feel free to choose."

We all stood in awe of the rewards laid out before us. There were magic amplification bracelets, magic armor, elixirs, and much more.

Henry: "Okay, Dakota, you go first."

Dakota: "Huh? Why me?"

Henry: "You were the one who killed the Djinn, right? It's only natural you go first."

Lucas: "Yeah, he's right, Dakota. Go ahead and choose."

Dakota: "Fine, fine."

I stepped forward to examine the rewards. There were so many great items to choose from. There was a magic amplification bracelet, magic armor, elixirs, and more. But there was one item that stood out among all of them. It was the mysterious box — the random mysteries box.

Dakota: "I'll choose the random mysteries box."

Edward: "Huh? The mysteries box? Really? That box is considered the worst one here."

Dakota: "Yeah, but I still want it."

Edward: "Well, if you say so..."

Henry: "What? Dakota chose the box? The worst option here?"

Lucas: "Yeah, why would you choose that box?"

Ava: "There are so many better items than that box. Why pick it?"

What they didn't know was that this box held a special ability, far more valuable than anything else. It was extremely difficult to get the best reward from it, but I knew the secret to obtaining it.

Dakota: "Okay, guys, you can choose your rewards now."

Henry: "Um, Dakota, are you sure you want to choose that?"

Dakota: "Yes, I'm sure."

So, they all chose their rewards. Afterward, we gathered at my room to look at the items we had selected.

Dakota: "So, what did you guys choose?"

Henry: "I chose the magic amplification bracelet."

Lucas: "I chose the elixir."

Ava: "I chose the flame magic scroll."

Liam: "I chose the magic armor."

Jack: "I chose the lightning scroll."

Mia: "I chose the bracelet that enhances my water magic."

Amelia: "I chose the light armor."

Luan: "I chose the water magic scroll."

Dakota: "Those are some pretty good items you all picked."

Henry: "But Dakota, I'm really curious. Why did you choose the random mysteries box?"

Dakota: "There's a reason why I chose this box, but I won't tell you."

Lucas: "Huh, why not?"

Dakota: "Because it's a secret."

Ava: "Oh, another secret?"

Dakota: "Wait, what do you mean by 'another secret'?"

Ava: "It's just that you're always full of secrets that we don't know about."

Dakota: "Well, don't worry. I will tell you all of my secrets one day."

Ava: "And when will that be?"

Dakota: "When the time is right."

Ava: "I wonder when that time will be."

Dakota: "Even I don't know. Maybe in ten years, maybe in one year, maybe in one month, or maybe even tomorrow."

Ava: "Just what are you getting at?"

Dakota: "I'm just saying that I will tell you when the time is right."

Ava: "Fine."

Henry: "Will you tell us too, Dakota?"

Dakota: "Hmm, I guess we'll see."

Henry: "When the time is right, right?"

Dakota: "Yeah, when the time is right indeed."

We all talked for about an hour, then it was time for us to go home.

Dakota: "Mother, Father, I'm home!"

Mother: "Welcome back, Dakota."

Father: "Yeah, welcome back. By the way, what reward did you choose?"

Dakota: "I chose the random mysteries box."

Father: "Huh? Why did you choose that?"

Dakota: "Trust me, Father, this box is much better than you think."

Father: "Oh? And how do you know that?"

Dakota: "I just do."

Father: "Ah, fine. I know you won't tell me the answer anyway."

Mother: "Okay, Dakota, come and eat dinner."

Dakota: "Okay, Mother. I'm coming."

And with that, the day ended. Though the mystery of the random box lingered in my mind, I was content knowing that I had made the right choice. I'd just have to wait and see what was inside.

And I couldn't wait, until I get the thing that's inside this mysterious box.
