Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Simon Clark Dies

The specialists exchanged glances and all shook their heads with a sigh.

"Young Master Clark's injuries are too severe..."

"Although we don't know what's keeping him alive, and his will to survive is strong, with such injuries, most people would have already..."

"We can only do our best..."

Their words were tactful, but the meaning was clear.

The fact that he had survived this long was already a miracle.

How could they save him now?

Ana Clark breaks down, crying out in despair:

"Please, you're experts, aren't you? You must save my son!"

One of them carefully asked:

"We found a special substance in Young Master Clark's body, which is sustaining his last bit of life. Do you know what he took before?"

The specialists' eyes lit up; they were curious too.

"What? I don't know," Ana Clark turned to the bodyguards who had brought Simon Clark to the hospital, grasping at straws:

"What did you give Simon? Do you have any more? Bring it out!"

The two bodyguards exchanged a glance,

"It's gone. That was a life-saving drug President Clark had us keep, and there was only one dose. But the person delivering more is already on the way."

At this moment, one of the bodyguards answered his phone: "Hello? Yes, on the 8th floor."

The bodyguard hung up and looked at Ana Clark: "The person with the drug has arrived; they're downstairs."

Ana Clark was visibly excited: "That's great. Simon is saved!"

...

Countdown: 48 minutes.

Logan arrived outside the First Hospital and headed toward the inpatient department.

The hospital was filled with people wearing masks, and Logan's appearance didn't draw any attention.

The ICU and the general wards were in two separate buildings, and there weren't many people around.

Soon, Logan reached the elevator in the inpatient department and pressed the button.

Someone walked up beside him, seemingly also waiting for the elevator.

The elevator doors opened with a "ding."

As Logan was about to step inside, he caught a glimpse of a reflection in the elevator's mirror and paused slightly.

In the reflection, he saw the figure of the person standing slightly behind him.

Dressed in black, tall, strong, holding a briefcase.

This person's demeanor was very similar to Simon Clark's bodyguards.

Logan didn't break his stride and entered the elevator as usual.

The man in black also stepped in.

The elevator doors slowly closed, and Logan pressed "7."

If this person was connected to Simon Clark, he would likely go to the eighth floor.

Sure enough, the next moment, the man in black stepped forward and pressed "8."

A sharp light flashed in Logan's eyes beneath his baseball cap.

Now he was sure this person was Simon Clark's man.

The elevator slowly ascended.

There weren't many people in this building, so the elevator went straight to the seventh floor without stopping.

"Ugh..."

Suddenly, Logan clutched his chest, bending over as if he were in pain.

The man in black glanced at Logan but didn't respond, instead stepping back.

"Ping," the elevator reached the seventh floor, and the doors opened.

Usually, there was no one outside the inpatient department elevator in this hospital.

To visit patients, one had to step out of the elevator and pass through a door to enter the ward area.

At this moment, Logan had collapsed face down on the floor, conveniently blocking the elevator doors from closing.

Besides the man in black, there seemed to be no one else to help Logan.

If he didn't lift Logan up, the elevator wouldn't operate normally.

The man in black frowned, tightening his grip on the briefcase.

Finally, he walked over to Logan, bent down, and reached out to pull him up and throw him out of the elevator.

But the moment his hand touched Logan!

Logan suddenly lunged at the man in black, pulling out a dagger from who knows where and stabbing it into the man's abdomen!

Then he twisted the knife viciously!

The man in black's eyes bulged in disbelief as he slumped against Logan.

He never imagined that someone would dare to kill in a place full of surveillance.

Logan didn't pull out the dagger, to avoid getting splattered with blood.

Not knowing how many of Simon Clark's people were upstairs, it was better to deal with them one by one.

At this point, Logan no longer worried about being discovered.

In less than an hour, the whole world would be plunged into chaos.

He just needed to kill Simon Clark and leave before the hospital security reacted.

Logan laid the man in black down outside the inpatient department on the seventh floor.

He immediately noticed the briefcase clutched tightly in the man's hand and snatched it away.

Then he slipped into the elevator just before the doors closed.

"Ping."

The elevator opened on the eighth floor, and Logan quickly walked into the ward area.

Ana Clark saw Logan dressed in black and hurried over, extending her hand:

"Are you the one delivering the medicine? Where is it?"

Logan glanced at the woman, who bore a slight resemblance to Simon Clark, confirming her identity.

He didn't respond, instead heading straight for Simon Clark's room.

"Wait!"

One of Simon Clark's bodyguards noticed something was wrong and blocked Logan:

"I haven't seen you before."

Another bodyguard also moved to stand behind Logan, trapping him.

These were the same bodyguards who had escorted Simon Clark back from the yacht. Logan lowered his eyes and spoke in a hushed tone:

"I'm the one responsible for guarding the pills. President Clark needed them urgently this time, so I was sent to deliver them."

The statement was deliberately ambiguous—it could be understood as Logan being the usual guardian of the pills, now sent to deliver something else, or as him being the one delivering the pills.

How it was interpreted depended on the listener.

Hearing this, the two bodyguards visibly relaxed but still said:

"Open the briefcase and let us see!"

A glint flashed in Logan's downcast eyes.

He hadn't yet seen what was originally inside the briefcase.

In the elevator, he had already swapped its contents with a handgun from his space.

Without hesitation, Logan placed the briefcase on the ground and opened the latch.

The specialists also gathered around, eager to see what kind of substance could save someone from the brink of death.

Logan slowly lifted the lid with one hand, while the other reached into the briefcase.

He swiftly drew out a handgun and shot the bodyguard in front of him!

"Thud!"

The silenced shot rang out, and blood spurted from the bodyguard's chest in front of Logan.

Everyone's eyes widened in horror at the scene!

The bodyguard behind Logan reacted the quickest, reaching for his side.

But Logan was faster, turning and pulling the trigger.

"Thud!"

A bullet shot upward, piercing the bodyguard's brain from under his chin.

A burst of blood exploded from the back of his head!

At that moment, the specialists and Ana Clark finally snapped out of their shock.

"Ahhh!!!"

Ana Clark fainted from fright.

"Murder! There's been a murder!"

"Run!!"

Amid the chaos, Logan pushed open Simon Clark's room door, confirmed it was him, and aimed the gun at Simon Clark's head.

"Thud! Thud! Thud!"

Three shots in a row, Simon Clark's blood and brains splattered all over the white pillow.

The heart monitor emitted a sharp, continuous beep.

This time, Simon Clark was dead beyond any doubt.

Logan holstered his gun and left.

Meanwhile, a group of hospital security officers, having seen Logan kill the man in black on the elevator's security footage, were now rushing toward him with batons and riot shields.

Apocalypse countdown: 35 minutes remaining.
