Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Malice

"But... what if the security cameras still have power?" the bald-headed young man asked cautiously, his eyes full of worry and a hint of fear.

Kane pointed a finger at the bald young man's nose, angrily scolding him, "That's why you'll never make money! You have no observational skills! Look around, where in the entire South City is there still power? Even the traffic lights are out."

Kane glanced at the four brothers who had been with him for two years, noting the conflicted expressions on their faces. He continued to persuade them, "I'm only bringing you guys out to make money because you've been with me for so long. If I were setting you up, would I drag myself down too? This is a golden opportunity! If the power comes back on, we won't have another chance. Think about all the people who look down on you. Why do they do that? It's because you have no money! Now, you have the chance to make some cash. Do you really want to stay broke and be looked down on forever?"

Kane spoke passionately, spittle flying as he did. He had been working so hard to convince them because, a few days ago, he had racked up a high-interest debt while gambling. The people behind those loans were not like Kane and his gang—they had serious backing and could easily deal with someone like him. If he couldn't repay the money, he'd be missing limbs in a few days.

Just when Kane was panicking, the power went out across South City—as if the heavens were helping him! He immediately set his sights on the nearby port, knowing he couldn't carry much on his own, so he called these four cowards to help.

Seeing that the four were swayed by his words, Kane pressed on, "There are so many containers here—no one will notice if one is emptied. And without surveillance, even if someone finds out, they won't know it was us. What's there to be scared of? If we do get caught, you can just say I made you do it!"

Seeing that Kane made sense and was taking responsibility, the other four finally let go of their worries, with a flash of greed in their eyes.

They were all in their mid-twenties, without real jobs, and had been living off their parents. This was what had brought them together.

One of them, a yellow-haired youth, spat on the ground and said, "Let's do it! These are the profits those capitalists have squeezed from us common folk. We're just taking back what's ours!"

"Kane is right! There are no cameras now, so what's there to be afraid of? Once I get this money, I'm going to throw it in my old man's face and show him his son isn't just a worthless spender!" This came from a chubby guy with four rolls of fat on his neck.

Finally, a crew-cut youth with an earring chimed in, "Let's do it!"

The bald-headed guy, seeing his companions all agree, gritted his teeth and said, "I'll follow Kane!"

"Good!" Kane nodded in satisfaction. "Move quickly, and let's go!"

Just then, the yellow-haired youth suddenly spoke up, "Hey, Kane, there's someone over there. Could he be a worker here?"

A yellow-haired young man pointed to Logan, who was about a hundred meters away, busy "opening mystery boxes," or rather, collecting items from the containers.

Kane followed his subordinate's direction and looked Logan up and down, quickly determining that he wasn't a worker here. The staff all wore uniforms.

"Ignore him. We'll go to the other side!" Kane said, leading his subordinates toward another section of containers.

...

Some of the port's containers were imports, others exports, and they could contain anything. Logan had just collected a container full of medicine and one filled with luxury goods. While the luxury goods were useless, the medicine was extremely valuable.

He placed his hand on the next container, and with a thought, the contents were transferred to his space. Inside were boxes of seeds. The container was packed with over two thousand small boxes, each labeled with the name of the seeds inside. Given the small size of seeds, a single box could contain tens of thousands. This entire container likely held over a billion seeds.

If he didn't take them, the seeds would freeze and become useless in a few days. However, even if he took them, the post-apocalyptic environment wouldn't allow them to grow. In extreme cold, most plants would freeze to death, except for a few mutated species. Greenery would disappear, leaving the world in a monochrome of white.

Logan shook his head regretfully but still stored the seeds in his space. After collecting goods from over a hundred containers, his space was still barely filled. With its current size, it could easily hold the contents of more than twenty thousand containers.

Logan continued toward the next container.

"Bang! Bang bang!"

Suddenly, the sound of metal being struck echoed from a distance. Logan frowned and looked in the direction of the noise. The containers blocked his view, so he cautiously approached and peeked around the corner of a container.

He saw five masked individuals using a fire axe, likely stolen from somewhere, to break the lock on a container. Logan was surprised—he hadn't expected others to figure things out so quickly and share his intentions.

However, these people didn't have spatial abilities, so they could only break the locks and carry away what they could by hand. Without vehicles, they wouldn't be able to take much. And even though the rain muffled the noise, the sound could still attract nearby workers.

Sure enough, Logan soon noticed two raincoat-clad port workers jogging over from a few hundred meters away.

"It's open! The door's open!"

"Hurry! Let's see what's inside!"

"Holy crap! These are the bags that celebrities always carry on TV!"

"This is an 'H' brand bag! I found an 'L' brand one here too!"

"This whole container is full of luxury bags and accessories! We're going to be rich!!"

The five men rushed into the container, tearing open boxes in a frenzy of excitement. They were so engrossed that they didn't notice the two workers approaching.

Logan quickly hid behind a container, out of sight, and as he did, he stored the contents of the nearby container in his space.

The two port workers soon spotted the open container. "Hey! What are you doing?!"

The five intruders froze in place, the bald-headed guy dropping the box he was holding.

"K... Kane, we've been caught!"

"Shut up, idiot!" Kane growled.

The two workers, holding batons, pointed at the group and commanded, "Come out!"

Kane scanned the container, his eyes filled with greed. If he could get this haul, he could not only pay off his debts but also buy a house in the suburbs and live a stable life. If today's plan failed, he wouldn't be able to pay back the hundreds of thousands he owed, and he'd end up maimed and jailed.

There were no cameras here. If he got rid of these two, no one would know it was him.

A flash of malice crossed Kane's face as he grabbed the fire axe and charged at one of the port workers!
