Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Sniping

Although Logan hadn't practiced with the crossbow for long, crossbows are known for their high accuracy and ease of use. Since he was already skilled with firearms, crossbows came in handy to him.

"Whoosh!"

While the crossbow didn't make much noise, the arrow cutting through the leaves made a distinct sound.

Amidst the dense rain, the unusual noise caught Agent No.2's attention.

"Something's up!"

"Ugh!"

Agent No.2's alert call coincided with another bodyguard's muffled groan. The arrow had hit one of the bodyguards directly.

Through his thermal night vision goggles, Logan clearly saw the positions and movements of the five men hiding behind the bushes.

"Get down!" The bodyguards reacted quickly, immediately dropping to the muddy ground.

The four remaining bodyguards lay in the mud, not daring to move.

There was no moon tonight, and in the pitch-black rainforest, they had no idea where the enemy was or where the attack had come from.

"Be careful, the enemy has thermal imaging equipment!" Agent No.2 whispered a warning.

If the enemy had approached closely, they would have sensed it. The only possibility was that the enemy was sniping from a distance.

They had a sniper in their group too, but using a sniper rifle in such dense jungle was nearly impossible.

It was a crossbow!

Agent No.2 crawled forward and reached the team member who had been hit by the arrow. Seeing the arrow lodged in the teammate's head confirmed his suspicion.

Now they were truly stuck in a dilemma. Advancing meant not knowing where the enemy was, and retreating to the beach would make them sitting ducks.

The remaining bodyguards felt a sense of despair. They hadn't expected this assassin to be so well-prepared, even placing equipment on the island in advance!

Even those who doubted that Logan was an assassin were starting to waver!

Amidst the torrential downpour and the pitch-black night, Logan's sharp eyes focused on the scope, his expression cold, and his lips pressed into a thin line.

With a pull of the trigger, the black arrowhead cut through layers of rain, slicing through a few blades of grass, and shot towards one of the bodyguards with incredible speed!

"Thud!"

The barely audible sound of the arrow piercing flesh was followed by a stifled groan.

Another hit!

But after waiting a moment, Logan noticed that the body's temperature on the thermal imaging goggles wasn't dropping rapidly.

The target wasn't dead.

It seemed the arrow hadn't hit a vital spot.

The remaining four bodyguards were now all lying in the grass. The dense undergrowth and bushes on the island significantly affected the accuracy of the crossbow.

Logan scanned the area and locked onto a pine tree to his right.

He flipped the crossbow back into his storage space, then climbed up the tree with the agility of a wildcat.

After quickly finding a stable position and concealing himself, Logan retrieved the compound crossbow, aimed, and fired!

"Ugh!"

Another short, sharp cry was heard as an arrow pierced through a bodyguard's chest.

"Blake!"

The bodyguard next to the one who was hit raised his head and called out.

But before he could check on his companion, another arrow cut through the rain and hit the bodyguard squarely in the forehead!

Agent No.2 frowned and growled:

"Northwest, in the tree!"

He then stood up and zigzagged forward about ten meters, taking cover behind a tree and firing his gun!

"Bang!"

His shot was incredibly accurate, hitting the spot where Logan had just been hiding.

But it was too late; Logan had already moved. The spot was now empty.

After shooting two arrows, Logan immediately made his crossbow disappear and quickly slid down the tree trunk.

There's a saying among snipers: Shoot and move.

There's no way Logan would stay in the same spot after firing.

While Agent No.2 fired his gun, Logan had already climbed a few meters away to another tree.

The precision of that shot gave Logan a start—this person was likely the sniper who had tried to kill him on the yacht.

Hearing Agent No.2 call out the position, another bodyguard got up, trying to imitate Agent No.2's maneuver to take cover and attack.

But just as he stood up, Agent No.2 shouted:

"Stay down!"

But it was too late.

"Whoosh!"

The last thing the bodyguard saw was a cold, dark arrowhead.

"Thud!"

The arrow struck him in the eye, killing him instantly!

Now, only one bodyguard remained!

...

Agent No.2 crouched behind a tree, icy rainwater running down his stern face.

He had once been a somewhat famous international mercenary—a sniper.

It was he who had fired the sniper rifle on the beach earlier.

However, after being betrayed by a comrade during a mission, he became disillusioned and left that world to become a bodyguard.

Among the eight bodyguards, he was the most aloof, accustomed to solitude, and always silent.

Hodor was more sociable, skilled at flattery, and had gained Simon Clark's trust, becoming the leader of the group.

Ever since Agent No.2 started living by the sword, he knew there would come a day when he would die by it.

And now, that day had finally arrived.

Agent No.2 knew he probably wouldn't leave this island alive.

At this moment, an arrow was lodged in Agent No.2's right arm, piercing through the limb. The sharp, barbed arrowhead still carried a piece of his flesh.

With his gun arm disabled, he had lost more than half of his combat effectiveness.

Yet his eyes showed no emotion, no fear of death.

The rain poured down harder, and with his left hand holding the gun, Agent No.2 realized the enemy had changed positions. He wanted to warn his teammate, but it was already too late!

A faint swish in the air told him that his last teammate was dead, revealing Logan's new location.

Agent No.2 took a deep breath, his eyes becoming as calm as still water, quickly calculating Logan's position in his mind. He darted out from cover.

And decisively fired!

...

After shooting the arrow from the tree, Logan suddenly felt a strong sense of danger!

It was even more intense than when he had been targeted by the sniper rifle on the beach!

He instinctively let go of his grip and leaned back, barely dodging a bullet.

But the tree was slippery from the rain, and Logan found himself hanging in mid-air.

This was an extremely dangerous situation. Once hanging, the enemy could easily predict his position, simply lowering the gun's aim to hit him.

And while in mid-air, Logan had no way to dodge.

However, Logan was so prepared. He flipped himself back onto the tree.

He had been holding onto a rope the entire time!

The rope had already been tied to the tree.

Even so, Logan was shocked.

The enemy's marksmanship was incredibly accurate—being able to pinpoint his location over 200 meters away on a pitch-black, rainy night.

One lucky shot could be a coincidence; two indicated the opponent's extraordinary skill!

So after being discovered the first time, Logan had prepared for evasive maneuvers this time.

Without infrared night vision equipment, Logan didn't believe the enemy could still find his position!

But this time, Logan was wrong.

"Bang!"

Another gunshot rang out. The moment Logan returned to the tree, a bullet hit his left shoulder!

Even though the bulletproof vest stopped the round, the impact knocked Logan off the tree again!

At that moment, a powerful sense of danger washed over Logan!
