"Contract?"
I turned to see a tall, raven-haired woman with piercing gray eyes staring at me, arms crossed. She was older than both Kate and me, her expression cold and calculating.
"I was just passing by. I didn't mean to eavesdrop," She said, but her tone suggested otherwise. "I am Gamma Claire. It's a pleasure to finally meet our Luna." The way she emphasized the word 'Luna' told me everything I needed to know about her.
I quickly plastered on a polite smile. "Claire, nice to meet you." I kept my voice light, hoping not to ruin the mood.
"You mentioned a contract?" Claire pressed, faking some politeness.
I didn't respond. Instead, I glanced at Kate, who had gone silent. Her earlier carefree attitude was replaced by something much more cautious. She kept her eyes on the ground, her hands fidgeting nervously in her lap.
I could tell this woman… Claire had something to do with this.
