Chapter 6 - Knighthood

.

Kal-El's POV~

.

I looked in the mirror, at the reflection of a teen Henry Cavil looking back. A much more handsome Henry Cavil.

As expected of a Kryptonian. Thousands of years of selective breeding haven't gone to waste after all.

I chuckled at my narcissistic joke, straightening the collar of my expensive attire.

It's been a week since I arrived in this world and to this day I can't help but think if this all is but a dream.

Each day I wake up stronger and better than the previous one thinking all this would end like a sweet dream. And my life of mundane mediocrity will resume.

The coward part of me doesn't want it to end. He doesn't want to return to Earth to hear his venomous mother's voice daily, he doesn't want her to remind him how he ruined her life or how pathetic he is.

But a part of himself, the very same part that stood for himself against his father and left his father's corrupted and bloodied money behind.

The very same part that pushed him to continue to work hard and climb the social ladder from the lowest.

The very part that prevented him from returning to his father and his luxurious life despite being slaved away by his boss for below-average pay.

That part wants him to return. Not for his previous life or anything, no! It wants him to return for his little sister. It wants to help her escape that destructive environment and save her humanity.

"Master Kal, it's time." Sofia's voice sounded from behind, breaking me out of my depressing thoughts.

I turned and faced the blonde maid appointed to me by Miss Bellatrix; The personal maid and nanny of Princess Lucia.

"Lead the way," I said and gave her my best smile, eliciting a blush from her beautiful face.

"Y-yes" Sofia replied with a stutter and sharply turned before started walking.

I chuckled at her reaction and followed.

'If you like a girl just ask her out, always works for me.' No wonder Henry Cavil gave such advice. With a face like this, I might really follow this advice.

"Do you remember what you have to say, right?" Sofia suddenly questioned.

"Yes, I remember everything. To be honest there isn't much to remember since I already accepted Her Highness's offer. Today's event is just a formality." I answered thinking about the meeting I had with Princess Lucia yesterday.

She summoned me through Miss Bellatrix and offered me nobility and land to rule in exchange for my loyalty.

At first, I wanted to reject her offer as managing a land and governing its people seemed like a hassle. And I already planned on becoming an Adventurer in the first place.

But when Princess said that I wouldn't have to manage the land. She will have someone loyal to her do it for me, I became a bit tempted.

I mean who wouldn't, enjoying the rest of my life as a noble, doing whatever I want without worrying about money or working ever. It was a dream come true.

The thing that sealed the deal was when she mentioned my only mission was to join the Adventurer Guild and find out how deep the organisation behind the Golden Lighting Party has infiltrated the Guild.

Her offer not only checked my original goal but also gave me a backup. And helping to find the organisation of Golden Lightning Party would help me express gratitude to Evelyne for saving me.

And most importantly, taking out such an organisation will help lessen my own guilt and sin for never trying anything against my father.

"We are here," Sofia quipped as we reached the giant doors of the throne room.

Two Knights stood menacingly, guarding the door. I waited quietly for my name to announce and sure after ten or so minutes, it did.

The guards opened the door of the throne room, motioning me to enter.

I nodded to Sofia and moved past the gates.

Immediately I felt countless gazes settle on me. I tried to ignore them but my enhanced senses made it harder. Each gaze felt like a ant crawling on my naked skin.

I almost sighed. These senses are already making my life harder I can't imagine what will happen when they truly awakened.

I already can't sleep properly with my enhanced sense of touch and hearing. I can barely stand anyone coming close to me with my sensitive nose. Anything bright and unexpected burns my eyes.

The food despite having no chemicals and far tastier than my old world is hard to swallow. I just taste too many flavours in them that overwhelm my taste buds and makes me want to puke.

*Slam* The Imperial Guard beside the Princess slammed his sword, breaking me out of my thoughts.

Ignoring the flush creeping up my cheeks from the blunder, I immediately dropped down and kneeled.

"Your Highness, May the grace of the Golden Order stay with you. And fury of the Golden falls on your enemies." I greeted with the basic customary greeting of the Empire.

The Empire follows the religion of the Golden Order created by the Goddess Marika, the very same Marika from the game Elden Ring.

If that wasn't surprising enough the Imperial family of the Bahamuth Empire comes from the Golden Lineage of Godwyne The Golden himself.

"And may you be blessed with Gold as well." Princess Lucia accepted before ordering me to stand.

"You may rise Kal-El." I quickly rose from my position and looked up to her despite my impressive height of six-four.

Princes Lucia shifted on her giant elevated throne, her right tight leather-clad legs crossing her left.

"Kal-El, Today you have been summoned to be rewarded for the great merit you have done for the Empire." Princes Lucia began once she comforted herself. She then motioned to the speaker standing beside the throne to continue.

The speaker brought out a scroll and started reading it, naming the many fake deeds he has done for the Empire.

The princess didn't want to reveal what he really did as that was her personal venture. So she made some fake contributions and had the speaker recite them so she could reward me without raising any questions from the nobles, ministers and her siblings.

Even with all the fake deeds she constructed, she could only promote me to a Knight as only the Emperor could promote someone to nobility.

"Now Kal-El, come forward." Princess Lucia ordered once the speaker stopped reciting.

I without hesitation moved forward and kneeled right before her as she stood from her throne and placed her sword on my shoulder.

I can feel the princess's eyes roaming around the room, asking if any had problems with my granting of the knighood.

Hearing no objection, her eyes fell on me as she recited the sacred vows, tapping different shoulders with each verse.

"In the name of Godwyne, I charge you to be brave."

In the name of Godfrey, I charge you to be just and honest.

In the name of Marika, I charge you to defend the young and innocent.

In the name of the Golden Order, I charge you to protect all that is right."

With the power granted to me by His Majesty The Emperor, I name you a Knight of the Empire."

Now Rise not as the otherworlder Kal-El but as Ser Kal-El of Baharuth, A proud Knight of the Empire!"

I immediately stood on her loud powerful order and announced just as loudly and powerfully, shaking the whole throne room with my voice.

"I swear on my honour I will uphold these vows until the day I meet Maliketh himself."
