Chapter 2 - No Hiding Place

Melanie

Damn Grace.

Why did she have to put in this situation and embarrassment before Tony ? She was supposed to be the sober one or we both got wasted.

"There's no ride, Melanie. Let's just go with the prince in shining armor." She slurred and I quickly covered her mouth, giving her the. Shut the heck up look.

Glancing back at Tony, he didn't hear her and I breathed a sigh of relief. Why does he look so damn hot!

Then he opened his mouth and spewed nonsense. How can there be someone so tactless and unyielding?

"Does that make you proud? The fact that you always see me in distressing and unconventional ways, does that make you feel good about yourself?" I spat out angrily.

He kept staring at me sreangely and said nothing, which made me more angry.

I hissed and moved away, pulling Grace after me. But she was nowhere around me.

"Grace." I called, not knowing where to look. I heard the car door click, and I averted my eyes there. Did she just get into the car?

I moved quickly to hold her hand and drag her back out, but she was quick to shut the door after her. She at me sheepishly as she touched the soft fur of the seat of the car and purred like a cat, attempting to lie down on it.

"Come in." She signaled.

"Traitor." I mouthed angrily. I'll just leave her be. I moved further away from the car and stood there, seething silently.

Tony did not come to meet me, but he was just waiting silently, peeking glances at me.

But the sky had a different plan entirely. There was a rumble in the sky, which was accompanied by a soft wind.

"Come on." I said to the sky dejectedly. Is the universe trying to push me to do what I do not want to do or is it trying to help Tony, here? My question was unreasonable and the sky rocketed with swift lightning, followed by a multiple claps of thunder.

I shrieked in fright, but caught myself before Tony could notice. I hate this sort of weather. It's scary. I silently prayed the weather would just pass. Being out here is no good for me at all.

The clap of thunder might have sobered Grace, because she quickly opened the car door and came to me, hugging me tight.

I never knew I was shaking so much, till she held me. I held her and breathed a sigh of relief, albeit still shakily.

"You fool. Come on, he's not going to bite while I'm there, okay?" She moved me and I had not energy to pull back.

Tony saw us approaching and he opened the car door for us. Grace held my head down as I got in and she got in after me.

"Hope you don't mind that we sit at the back?" Nors asked Tony as soon as he got in.

The sky had let up and a light drizzle had started falling. He dusted his body as he looked to the back and gave a full smile.

"I'm rather honoured." He turned and started the ignition, then drove off.

The purr of the car gave me a sort of calming effect and in no time, my breathing evened out.

With my evened out breath and my rationality returning, a great wave of embarrassment washed over me.

So much for being uptight. I hid my face in the crevice of Grace's neck aghast. I could feel her lips stretch into a smile as she held me there, in understanding.

Grace engaged in small talks with him while I kept hiding in embarrassment.

Why was it taking so damn long? I cursed in my head. The distance from the club to my apartment should not be this long. I peeped and stared out of the window and the light drizzle had ceased.

"Thank goodness."I muttered as I saw him approach the corner to my house and I pushed myself away from Grace and kept staring out the window, ignoring both of them.

He laughed heartily at one of Grace's joke and I could not stop myself from rolling my eyes. The joke was not that funny.

I looked up and saw him staring intently at me through the front mirror. What is he? A pervert? I rolled my eyes one morning time and looked away.

"You do that one more time and we might have to pick your eyes from the floor." Grace whispered in my ears and I glared at her. She shook her head at me tsked.

The car came to a stop in front of my apartment and I was absolutely ready to run off.

I opened the door of my side so quickly and I jumped out. Tony was out that same instant, as if he had calculated my move and held my hand before I could take more than three steps.

"Melanie." He called.

"Leave me alone." I spat out and wringled my hands from his grasp.

"Melanie, please a minute. Let's discuss for just a minute." He pleaded as he held my hand tighter.

"You're hurting me." I cried out and he quickly let go of my hand, raising it up.

"I'm sorry." I massaged my wrists as I looked up at him. He looked apologetic as he looked at my wrists worriedly.

"Is your wrist okay?" He asked with concern.

His height was just the perfect angle to steal a kiss. Wait! What was that thought about and where did it come from? I asked my mind, berating it for going astray.

Grace took her time in getting down from the car, then she stared at me disapprovingly before turning to Tony.

"Tony, you should come inside for a cup of coffee. Then you can discuss whatsoever you want to discuss inside where it is warm."

She turned on heels and left before I could even refuse and sure enough, Tony was after her.

I stood there feeling betrayed.
