Chapter 7 - Cailey’s Father

A soft and cosy blanket was now covering Key's body, who was already lying comfortably on her bed.

Even her eyes were now starting to close slightly, having truly believed that Ervan was near her.

Soon the sound of soft, quiet snoring began to ring in Ervan's ears.

Ervan gently rubbed Key's hair.

To be honest he was a little sad, because he found Key like this, and to be honest Ervan had slightly prejudged Key's trauma.

"If your father hadn't done that project in the first place, and your father wasn't that smart, maybe he would still be by your side," Ervan said with his gaze sadly looking at the calm Key.

Afterwards, Ervan seemed to frown softly.

For a moment, he realised the awkwardness that he might have missed.

Wait...

Has Key's father's research been successfully realised? Or...

Ervan quickly picked up his phone that was left in the living room, where Key and he had been together, because he couldn't find it in his trouser pocket.

"Tsk, I should have realised this," Ervan said as he quickened his pace.

As expected, his mobile phone was still faithfully lying there.

Ervan with a passionate voice seemed very serious with his conversation this time on the phone, even this time Ervan asked his secretary to find out about the process as well as the completion of the project that had once sounded vaguely in Ervan's ears when he had visited Key's father several times.

So, who exactly is Key's father and what is his relationship with Ervan?

Key's father is none other than one of the professors at Oxford, who is respected by the lecturers and seniors there, and Key's father is Ervan's former lecturer.

So... the world is narrow, isn't it?

Key accidentally meets Ervan who is just on holiday, calming his mind in London, which in fact the reason Key is there, is the same reason as Ervan.

Do you think Ervan and Key are a match?

If it comes to that...

It seems like Key doesn't intend to think about it, Key tends to only think about what she thinks with real logic, not with her feelings.

Key is too innocent for romance.

After completely finishing giving directions and instructions to his secretary who faithfully carried out his orders, Ervan chose to check on Key's condition again, because after all Ervan had promised Key to accompany her so that Key would not have nightmares in her sleep.

A smile was etched on Ervan's face when he found Key who was still calm in her sleep.

'It's a relief that you're still calmly sleeping like that, at this rate I'll be much calmer,' Ervan said in his mind as he shortly closed the door to Key's room again.

Yes, previously Ervan had only monitored from the front door, not going inside Key's room, it was only in case something untoward happened that Ervan went in there.

Ervan didn't want to disturb Key's peace.

"You just relax, I'll help you. Your father used to be a good man and can be a good model for me. If I hadn't just walked away from him that time, maybe things would have turned out differently," Ervan said in a low tone of voice recalling an old memory that suddenly popped into his head.

"Ethan, Chan!" screamed Ervan after walking away from Key's room.

The two strapping young men, dressed neatly again like high-class bodyguards in their suits, approached Ervan.

Both of them looked authoritative and intimidating as they stood in front of Ervan.

Ervan nodded his head slowly, saying that the two of them did look like bodyguards, compared to when Ervan saw the two young men being pranked by Key with all the short but complicated questions.

Both Ethan and Chan apologised to Ervan in unison. But unexpectedly, Ervan patted both of them on the shoulder and thanked them for entertaining Key so that the girl could forget her trauma for a moment, although Ervan did not explicitly explain that Key had a special trauma that was quite disturbing to her soul.

Simultaneously, Ethan and Chan frowned and looked at each other.

"I have increased your duties," Ervan said firmly, looking at the two.

Both of them seemed to be waiting for what their superiors were going to say.

"If Key has a unique request, then you just follow her request, just limit her meetings with people out there, if the situation is favourable enough I will allow Key to return to Oxford with you who will go with her, let me know if there is a person or group that you think is suspicious," said Ervan firmly.

A unison nod of the head was what Ervan got from both of them.

After the serious talk to the two trusted bodyguards who he believed were guarding Key was over, Ervan walked to his room to clean his body, and cool down his mind which he thought was too hot.

***

A man dressed in all black, with a wooden cigar with a little carving on the end inserted on his right finger that was holding the handle of the bench he was currently sitting on.

"How was it? Did you find the girl?" the man asked in a voice that sounded very heavy.

Silence...

There was no answer from the five young men who were standing perfectly in front of the man.

BAM!!!

A loud smack on the table in front of the man could be heard echoing in the spacious room.

The tallest of the five youths slowly and slightly raised his voice.

"Sorry sir, we failed... the girl was hard to track down, it seems someone was protecting her sir."

A snicker and a grin were suddenly displayed by the man who had been sitting.

"You think I'm stupid, she's a lone wolf, do you think... does that girl have a protector?" asked the man in a tone that seemed cynical and tense, making the young man who had answered the man's words shrink.

The young man really didn't like this position, where he and his four friends seemed cornered.

"Two weeks. You have to settle it, no excuses," the man said sternly and succinctly.

The five youths seemed to gulp their saliva roughly and quickly nodded their heads.

If the man had said the specified time, it meant that their lives would be at stake there, meaning that the five young men only had two weeks, if it was longer than that, they would have to meet their own deaths at the hands of the man.

"Get out!" the man snapped at the five young men.

Automatically the five young men's bodies immediately turned around and left the man's room.
