Chereads / Being me - Rosette / Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

I passed my basic five examination alongside with Olive and we went to high school together. Though,we were in different classes most of the time. High school love is the best, they say. But isn't it more of a distraction? Most times, it has no future in it. It's just for fun as it lasts. Well, I can't judge yet.

Entering junior high was no joke. It was like seeing a whole lot of new and strange things without having a single clue about any of them. I was comforted though due to the loveliness of the teachers and my fellow classmates. They were quite nice. During junior high, I didn't have enemies except for a sly boy named Anthony. We hated each other's guts. He was always on my nerves and he could be so annoying. Everyone had done everything humanly possible for us to be acquainted again but it proved to be as futile as arguing an already lost case. Instead, it added more flames into it. He would stop nothing at insulting my every being. But I wouldn't retaliate till one day, I lost it. I thought of paying him back in his own coin but hesitated. I think he mistook it for cowardice and decided to step up his game.

He placed a big chunk of chewing gum on my seat without my knowledge. That was after break time. I was so tired and wanted to sit without further delay that I forgot to check and scrutinize my chair before sitting down. When I got up, I felt something on my skirt. I saw I was a gum but cleaning it out of my school uniform was no easy-peasy job. It was hard not to notice it and that was how he succeeded in making me a circus clown and an object of ridicule for the rest of the day. I was burning for revenge.

The next day, after the morning assembly, I hurried back to the classroom before else and flooded his seat with a very sticky transparent colored liquid gum. Then, I pretended like nothing happened. I was anxiously waiting and of course, he came in as usual, ridiculed me as expected and sat on his chair as predicted. I loved the look on his face when he realized he had sat on something wet. He tried standing up but too late that the wet substance was actually a sticky liquid gum which has glued him to his chair. He looked so frightened after reality dawned on him. He started apologizing and begging me to release him and that he wouldn't taunt me again. After much pleas, I told him what to do and he was freed.

Though, he didn't stop hating me but he stopped messing with me. At least, it worked a little. School wasn't such a bad idea, was it? I kept on graduating to higher and higher grades while my parents kept missing the graduation ceremonies and were also regular absentees to other school functions they were invited to. Typical.
