Chereads / Being me - Rosette / Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Life doesn't always gives us what we want. If it eventually does, it is always in a confusing form that sometimes we would ask ourself if we should accept or forsake it. The bad choices we made and the little mistakes we've committed goes a long way harming and hurting us. We thought we had already committed it and so it should be forgotten, hidden and buried behind us. We become caught in a web that we are not aware of. Then, the repercussions will come hitting us squarely on the face.

Helena may or may not have done those things she is being accused of but hiding it won't always solve it. One day, it would resurface and it would maim her reputation. Our biggest fear and insecurity for which we were concealing our past mistakes will later come and reveal itself and by that time it would be too late. I know one can't avoid mistakes but always avoid the ones avoidable. You know you don't want to be known for a bad reputation but intentionally committing mistakes that could tarnish your image and that was easily avoidable means you caused the calamity yourself. Everyone should always be careful about their actions. Everything we do contributes to our future.

"What's up?" Olive greeted.

"I'm good, and you?" I replied.

"Great. So what are we going to do about our findings?" She asked

"I don't know yet, though, I don't plan on tattle taling with it".

"Why don't we talk to her about it?".

"What are you thinking?! She will be pissed".

"Or maybe she would open up about herself to us and come clean to either confirm or deny the allegations".

"You know me too well. I don't deal with probabilities. It's too dangerous if you ask me".

"Life itself is a probability, so, better cut that crap of not rolling with the life's inevitable probability".

"Okay, let's do it then".

Later, after class, Olive went up to Helena while I watched from a safe distance, trying to do my best at lip reading.

"Hi Helena, do you know me?" Olive asked.

"Yeah, you're the popular member of the Press club", Helena answered.

I could see the ecstatic feeling that was growing inside her. Hmm, so she was that famous.

"Since you know me that well, let's then get to the point. I just want to ask you about your reasons for switching schools. Don't be offended. I just want to know if there was an event that led to it".

"I don't seem to owe you any explanation whatsoever".

"Oh no no, you don't but I found an intriguing article about you in your previous school portal..."

"How did you come about the name of my formerly attended school?".

"Well, do not underestimate me. Every magician got his or her own trick and not that I owe you an explanation or whatsoever but if you are curious, how about we satisfy each other's curiousity?".

"Forget it". Helena said as started walking down the halls.

"What if someone else exposes it before you could do anything about it? How is it going to be then?" Olive said and Helena immediately stop dead on her track.

"And could that someone...be you?"

"No! Definitely not, trust me".

"Trusting you is like trusting my secret with a gossip 'cause both categories can't keep information to themselves. Though, I might not know the techniques about posting an article suitable to buy the public interest but I know is posting an article, a condemning one, about me needs proof before the news will be accepted so trying to interview me with your hidden sound recorder to show as proof will just be a waste of your precious time".

"Look, I know you look down on the press club and journalists but I have no hidden agenda".

"Sure. If you will excuse me, I have somewhere to be".

"The... cafeteria you mean".

"I would appreciate if you stop following me".

"Just one more thing, remember that nothing is hidden forever, so I advise you solve this yourself now before someone else exposes it before you do. It will be disastrous".

"Did she agree to open up?", I asked expectantly.

"Proud peacock with feathers so colorful found it insulting to honour the request of an ordinary peasant",Olive said with all the parablesshe could come up with

"Be factual and waste none of my time",I replied rather impatiently.

"You sound just like me too".

"Can you just say it the way you ought to?"

"Okay, here's the thing. She refused because she thinks I want to get the truth out of her, sound record it and use it as a proof if I decided to post the article about her. She said she would never trust anyone with her secret especially someone as overzealous as I am. And so I told her told her to do something about it herself than for someone else to expose it for it won't be good".

"Obviously", I replied.

"What does that mean?"

"You know, she's right. You are just one ambitious little snitch".

"Screw you!!! The little snitch's the one doing the job for you, smart pants, clap for yourself".

"So, what's to be done?"

"You know I never function on an empty stomach. Come on let's go wack the cafeteria's lunch before anything else".

"What's more important to you?"

"Food".

"Obviously", I said rolling my eyes and continuing.

"We'll do what you say. I don't plan on starving you anyway 'cause there is no way we will get excellent ideas from your head when you lack what you crave for, you obsessed foodie".

"Say what you want",she said non-chalantly as we walked off to the cafeteria.
