Edwina sighed after she disconnected the call. She had promised Valenthia that she would be coming back but she didn't want to go. Aaron's betrayal was still fresh in her mind. But it had been years since she met with her mom, dad, and brother. She missed them. Even talking to them was not enough.
She stood up and started packing her bags. Living alone was a boon to her. No one was there to ask her questions or demand to know her story. She worked and lived peacefully. Living among the humans taught her many things which the Lycan world would not have taught her. Now she had so many technologies under her feet. She knew how to work with a computer, and a phone and how to use them to her requirements.
While packing her doorbell rang. She knew it must be her friend, Lily. She ran to the door.
"I brought doughnuts and coffee," screamed Lily, dumped the food on the dining table and threw herself on the couch. Edwina shook her head in disbelief. She always came like a thunderstorm and like a hurricane, she would go away. "Did you hear the news? They are increasing the prices of oat milk." Sometimes, Edwina found the human world to be bizarre. What was so special about oat milk?
"No, I didn't," she replied and opened the box of doughnuts and placed them before Lily. "Why did you buy this expensive coffee? I would have brewed one cup for you at home."
"Wah! This rich girl is calling this coffee expensive. Your coffee machine is expensive than this," said Lily.
"I didn't buy it, it was a gift from my client. I won the case," said Edwina.
"Yeah, yeah, big shot lawyer! Wait! What is that?" shouted Lily, threw her doughnut back in the box and ran into Edwina's bedroom. "Are you packing?"
"Um…" sighed Edwina. "Yeah, I am going home."
"What? How? When? Why?" asked Lily, frantically.
"To answer your questions, I am going home, I am going by bus, I will be leaving in two days and I am going because my friend is getting engaged," laughed Edwina but her laughter didn't reach her eyes.
"You have other friends!!" snapped Lily.
"Oh, stop it!"
"So, it's Valenthia over me?" pouted Lily.
"You remember her name?" Edwina was shocked.
"Of course, I remember the name of my competition," joked Lily. "So, she is your wifey and I am the other woman?"
"That is true," laughed Edwina. Lily always made her laugh.
"When will you be back?" asked Lily.
"I don't know, maybe 10 days," replied Edwina.
"Teeennnn days!!!" she stretched her words. "That is too long."
"Hey! That should be good news for you. My wifey is getting married so you will be the only woman in my life. Think about that," smirked Edwina.
"Woah! Was that a joke? Did you just make a joke? You know how to make a joke? Wow!" Lily was surprised.
"Ha-ha, so funny," said Edwina, sarcastically.
"I will miss you," said Lily and jumped over Edwina.
"Can't you do anything without jumping all over? Were you a frog in a previous life?" snapped Edwina.
"No, I was a monkey," laughed Lily and hugged Edwina. "Did you get your leave approved?"
"No, I will talk to them today."
"What if they deny it?"
"Well, I will be glad. That way I will have a reason to not go," said Edwina, sadly.
"You have to face Aaron one day. You cannot run away from him all your life," said Lily.
"But…"
"And Valenthia did nothing wrong. You must not punish her. She is your true friend, as you say your soul mate," said Lily.
"True, she always took my side when others used to bully me," said Edwina.
"You know racism is everywhere and sometimes kids can be cruel," explained Lily.
"Who made you so smart?" joked Edwina, smiling.
"You did, my big shot lawyer, I am just a dumb girl who designs clothes," said Lily.
"Are you kidding me? You taught me how to dress fashionably, I was an idiot before you came into my life," Edwina praised her.
"That is true. Oh, wait! I have a dress for you. Wear that! Aaron will rue the day he broke your heart. He will die after seeing you in that dress. It would look good with your skin tone and your magical white hair. By the way, why do you have white hair? Are you a witch or something?" asked Lily.
"Yeah, the most powerful witch. How do you think a beautiful girl like you is friends with me? I trapped you in a spell," replied Edwina.
"Shut up! I hate when you talk like this. Who says you are not beautiful? Does skin tone decide who is beautiful? Whoever calls you ugly is blind. You know nothing. Your heart matters the most, not your skin type. Am I clear?" said Lily.
"Half of what you say is unclear to me. Talk slowly. Why do you always ride on a horse?"
"That is me, a girl who talks fast. Keep up!" said Lily, grabbed her half-eaten doughnut and took a sip from the coffee.
"You keep on eating, I will go and get ready. I have to leave for office."
"Okay miss international law," saluted Lily and laughed at Edwina. She waited for her to get ready and in the meantime, she kept packing the best dresses Edwina had. Most of them were her creations. She had her own boutique and was very well-known in the market.
"Whattt!! Why did you do this? I could have done my own packing," complained Edwina.
"I saw which dresses you were taking. You are an idiot. You will take these dresses and some more that I will get for you. Now go to the office. I will see you in the evening," said Lily and left the house.
"Lily!!" shouted Edwina after her but by that time Lily was gone. Edwina stood in her apartment in her bathrobe staring at her suitcase.
