Richard pulled away from my embrace on the couch and wiped the tears from his face.
"Richard, tell me everything. How is your father doing? Is he in the hospital right now?" I asked gently.
Richard sighed. "My father had lung cancer a few years ago. He fought it and won, but now it's back, and it's even stronger than it ever was."
"Have you told anyone else?" I asked.
"No one. I am his only son and all my uncles are in Italy, so, no one," he replied.
A sense of isolation washed over me. Richard was going through this alone, and I wanted to be there for him every step of the way.
I couldn't fathom the pain he must be going through."I'm so sorry for your dad and what you both have to go through. Has he been admitted to the hospital?" I asked, my heart aching for him.
