Chapter 7 - Pathetic Guy

"My ladies, this is Elian Fischer, and it turns out he has strong seed!" the demon announcer happily announced after the first finalist was called.

"Although an illegitimate child from the noble Fischer family of Vampire City, he is well-versed in literature, music, and arts! He also has adequate combat skills. He is a second-class awakened pureblooded vampire. As you can see, he has a well-built physique, is tall, and has a pleasant face."

Kirk Ludzegar smiled at the crowd, flashing his golden tooth.

"So, noble and royal ladies of Heartstone, who wants to take this young man here as your mate or slave?"

Vince just stood in the hall, waiting for his name to be called. To be honest, he was a little nervous.

What if no one chose him, not even as a slave?

The chances were slim, just as those rats had said earlier. He was a fallen noble, and on top of that, he had no special skills to boast of!

But then, he looked quite dashing right now because he was healthy, young and vigorous, wasn't he? If the priestess's inspection proved his sperm to be strong, with his looks, he might just have a chance.

Forget about being the mate or slave of a noble lady. Getting laid wasn't important at the moment. He needed the monetary reward more than anything because he had no family fortune to lean on in this world.

It would be dangerous to live without power or money in a fantasy world.

"Ludwig Rosvilier from Beast City! He is a werewolf and, though not from a noble family, he is charming and skilled at forging weapons! He is a first-class awakened and…" the announcer continued, listing the man's strengths.

In the southern part of the hall, where a long table held only two people, a redhead lady held her wine glass, her crimson-colored nails as dark as the wine in the glass. Her posture was elegant and perfect, her long red hair in a high ponytail. She wore a dress with a burgundy bodice and skirt, with black, flowing sleeves draping down her shoulders.

Her eyes were dark red, as were her luscious lips.

"I thought you wouldn't come here, you know," said the young man beside her, chewing on a grape. He teased her, "Planning to take a mate, perhaps?"

"Mm, maybe I'll find someone interesting and take him as my temporary slave."

"Or maybe you just came because Riven is here."

The redhead lady glared at the man.

"Why would I care about that stonehearted man? This event only happens once in a century, why would I miss it? Tsk."

"And now," the announcer continued, "we have Vince Rosen from the Rosen family in Demon City!"

When Vince stepped forward, the wind blew his hair and parted it a bit, revealing the center of his forehead and the black stone as he stood by the side of the priestess and the announcer.

"Oh, look at that. This demon guy has a dormant power core," said the man beside the redhead lady.

The redhead lady, who hadn't been paying much attention to the Selection before, looked ahead, her eyes falling on Vince.

She smirked and shook her head. "How pathetic."

The man beside her laughed. "I admire his courage and confidence, huh."

"Upon Priestess Elara's inspection, Vince Rosen proves to be a young man with very healthy and strong seed!"

The red head lady stopped watching the show and just drank wine while eating the fruits in front of her. She was getting bored and she felt that it wouldn't be long before she got up from there and leave.

"Although he hails from a fallen noble family and has a dormant power core, Vince Rosen has aced the mental tests and also has good combat skills that didn't fail to amaze the judges during the preliminary rounds! And as you can see, my ladies, he is a handsome young man with the height of 186cm, and he has a lean but muscular built!"

However, most of the ladies who went there to take a man from the Selection were disappointed. They were noble and royal ladies, after all, and the man was a dormant, the lowest power class in society. For the rich people, getting involved with the lowest rank was frowned upon.

"So, my ladies, who wants to take this vigorous and handsome young man here?"

Vince sighed and looked around the hall while standing there beside the announcer. The demeaning looks and mocking smiles were everywhere and he felt like he should just let the ground eat him right now.

What was the old Vince thinking? Even if he was so smart and good in physical combat, didn't he know he would be shamed like this? Or maybe he was just shameless to the point of insanity.

Vince remembered his situation back then, how desperate he was to save himself and ride a time machine he didn't even know would work.

Maybe the old Vince loved his family so much and he was very desperate too, so he joined this to earn the monetary rewards and save his family.

"It is a shame that none of you here would want to take this young man as a mate or slave," the announcer laughed awkwardly and he looked at Vince with pitiful eyes. He then faced the crowd, "So, since no one wants him, let us move on to-"

"I will take him as my slave."

Someone emerged from the shadows under the balcony of the hall and Vince noticed that everyone was looking at something behind him.

Most people had their jaws dropped to their stomach when they saw who the lady was.

Her straight silver hair cascaded down her chest and her back and her long white cape draped down the floor as she walked gracefully.

There was a smile on her face that looked very innocent.

"Woahhhh, is that Lady Raine?"

"Why would she pick that dormant guy to be her slave?"

"This is unexpected!"

"I heard she doesn't play around with men and no one expects her to participate in the Selection!"

"Yes, it's definitely out of her character."

"My beautiful wife!!! Why didn't she choose me instead? Is this for real?"
