When the clothes were delivered by a servant, Vince decided to take a bath to freshen up.
The bathroom was spacious, with a large bathtub. He filled it with water from the faucet and slipped into the warm water. It felt incredibly soothing.
"Ahhh, this feels so nice after a long day!" Vince couldn't help but chuckle.
But his chuckle quickly died down, and he jolted when he heard a noise coming from somewhere in his room. It sounded like a thud. He was sure it wasn't from the bathroom.
Did Raine follow him to his room???
But she didn't seem interested in him that way. Perhaps it was a servant, then?
"Who's there?"
No one answered.
Vince pushed his wet hair back, his forehead creasing. He asked again, this time ensuring his voice was loud enough for anyone outside the bathroom to hear. But still, there was no answer.
This manor wasn't haunted, was it? He wasn't fond of horror movies, you know.
In the end, Vince sighed and decided to let it go. He continued his bath and took his sweet time. Once he was done, he wrapped the thick bathrobe around his body and stepped out of the bathroom.
It only took him one step to realize that the candles had been blown out by the wind from the wide-open window.
Who the hell opened the window? He remembered all the windows were closed before he went to the bathroom!
With the faint light coming from outside, Vince was about to walk past the bed when something caught his eye.
He looked at the bed, and his eyes widened.
A pair of red eyes glowing in the dark were watching him!!!
"Hello, Master Vince."
He was about to have a heart attack until he heard the familiar, cute female voice.
"Is that you, Fiona?"
"The one and only."
"Why are the lights out?"
It was only then that he realized the devious cat must have entered the room through the window.
"You shouldn't have left the window open! Look, all the candles have been blown out!"
"My apologies, Master Vince. I didn't think about that. As a demon cat, I have good eyesight even in the dark. I forgot you are not awakened yet, so your sight is poor. It was so thoughtless of me."
Vince's jaw dropped in the dark. Did this cat come here to insult him?
Before he could say more, someone knocked on the door.
"It is Tony, Lord Vince. A servant said she heard something from your room. Might you need any assistance?"
Vince sighed in relief.
"Yes, I need a match, please. The candles were blown out by the wind."
Tony entered the room and, with ease, went to each corner where the candle stands were placed. In no time, the room was lit again.
Noticing the cat sitting on the bed, Tony was about to ask about it, but Fiona spoke first.
"Hello, Tony. You must be the butler here. I am Fiona, Master Vince's companion. Since he will be living here, I will live here too. Don't worry, Lady Raine won't be troubled by my presence. I don't need another room either, as I will be sharing a bedroom with my master."
Tony maintained a stoic expression.
"That won't be a problem. A guest's companion is always treated with hospitality here in Lady Raine's residence."
After Tony left, Vince narrowed his eyes at the cat, who was now lounging comfortably on his bed.
"I looked for you in the castle earlier. Where were you?"
The sassy cat smirked, revealing her short fangs, which made Vince a little uneasy.
"Well, I was running for my life."
"???"
"The moment Lady Raine said she wanted to take you as her mate, I knew it meant danger for me. So, to be honest, I tried to run away before I'd get killed along with my pathetic master."
Her voice dropped to a whisper, as if not wanting anyone else to hear her, "You don't know this because you lost your memory, but it's no secret that Lady Raine has a few screws loose. She's never taken an interest in any man before, not even someone of royal blood, so why would she take you?"
She rolled her eyes and grinned.
"You don't look very useful, you know. Well, aside from your good looks and healthy seed."
Vince's cheeks heated slightly at the mention of 'healthy seed.' Remembering how he presented his semen to everyone was still embarrassing. But he was sure Raine wasn't after that.
Fiona continued, "I thought about it and realized she must need something from you. She's not Demon City's captain for nothing. So I figured I better distance myself before things went awry."
"Why are you here then?"
"What can I do? I have a conscience, and in the end, I realized I didn't have the heart to leave you to your own devices. You don't have your memory, who knows what kind of stupidity you might get into? You must tread lightly around Lady Raine, so I'm here to guide you. You see, I'm risking my poor life here, Master Vince."
"…"
The cat's eyes squinted.
"Don't look at me like that. You are such an ingrate, Master Vince. Hmmph!"
Vince shook his head and picked up the clothes from the chair.
"I'm sure you've just realized that you will have a comfortable life if you stick with me."
He left Fiona there and took his clothes to the bathroom. He wasn't comfortable changing in front of the cat, even though she wasn't a person.
Once he was done changing, he stepped out of the bathroom and found the cat sleeping soundly on his bed.
"Tsk, such a sleepyhead."
Since it was already time for dinner, Vince quietly slipped out of the room and headed downstairs. He almost got lost but thankfully saw the butler and asked for directions.
When he entered the dining hall, Raine was already there, sitting at the long table.
Seeing the table full of food, Vince's mouth watered. He realized he had been hungry this whole time.
"Come, come, sit beside me, Vince."
Raine was at the head of the table, and Vince took the seat to her right.
"I told the cook to prepare a feast tonight. Just a little celebration for us. I'm sure you must be hungry. Don't worry, I didn't put any poison in the food!" She smiled innocently. "Sometimes I do poison guests, but you are special and my potential mate, so rest assured nothing on the table is harmful."
Well, at least she made that clear, Vince thought wryly.
"You need to eat well tonight, okay? Eat well so you'll be strong enough tomorrow."
Vince was about to pick up the cutlery, but his hand was left mid-air.
"Why… do I need to be strong enough tomorrow?"
Raine took the wineglass from her fingers, and Tony poured her some red wine.
She smiled at Vince, her eyes twinkling as if she were very excited.
"Because your training starts tomorrow morning."
